This 1983 Jeep CJ7 looks retro-cool on the outside, practically
brand new on the inside, and it keeps that awesome rugged 4x4
spirit all over. So this is the kind of CJ that made you fall in
love with Jeeps in the first place.
This CJ7 has the right look for all-around fun. The tubular steel
front bumper with an integrated brush guard, Renegade fender
flares, tail light guards, and a proper trailer hitch on the rear
are all upgraded that are part of adventurer-level fun. But there's
also pizzazz to this classic with the great-looking Renegade blue
strobe stripe package and a nice polish to all the wheels -
including the full-size spare on the rear. And the red paint unites
the full style. It's a later respray that retains a nice gloss to
show off the good body panels but it's nothing fancy enough to make
this 4x4 ever be accused of being a soft-roader.
A proper Jeep likes to be open to the world, and so there has been
a recent solid investment in making sure it looks good doing that.
It starts with a fresh application of rugged liner paint in the
tub. There are nice well-bolstered front bucket seats in resilient
vinyl. And there's a new bikini top to keep the sunshine off your
shoulders whenever you like. It's an attractive full package that
also includes an updated stereo, classic half-doors, and a cup
holder center console.
We love Jeep's 258 cubic-inch inline six. It's one of those great
motors that has a robust reputation, and the level of aftermarket
parts are terrific for everything from big torque builds to
maintenance on a budget. So when you have one that's so stock and
complete, it's like a blank canvas for whatever you want -
especially since this is offered for a value price. But you also
may decide it's already perfect since it has the sturdiness to do
things like it was driven a few hours to get to our showroom.)
Plus, the control of a five-speed, the ease of power steering, and
the stopping power of power brakes with front discs are useful for
the street or trail. And don't forget, a CJ like this has the
wheelbase, stance, and drivetrain to be a terrific 4x4.
