Vehicle Description
This 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne 409 is an absolutely stunning 2 door
sedan that was professional frame-off restored and has extensive
documented history. In 1962, Chevrolet was the world's largest
automaker and produced over 2 million vehicles. Chevy's product
offerings were divided into 5 distinct categories, the compact
Corvair, the slightly larger Chevy II, the sporty Corvette,
utilitarian trucks, and full-size passenger cars. Chevrolet's
full-size passenger cars were divided into 3 separate sub-series,
the entry-level Biscayne, the intermediate Bel Air, and the premium
Impala. While Chevy's passenger cars retained the same wheelbase,
door panels, and major components from the previous year, the 1962
Chevrolets received all new sheetmetal. The new 1962 body was
longer, boxier, and looked more modern than Chevy's previous
designs. The Biscaynes were the plainest '62 Chevys but were
appointed with an anodized grille flanked by a pair of headlights
on each side, a thin anodized rocker body molding down the side,
and finished with 4 taillights in the rear. The Biscayne's
interiors were also fairly plain trimmed in vinyl with cloth
inserts, along with vinyl side coverings. Standard options for the
Biscayne included items such as dual sun visors, turn signals,
front door armrests, an ashtray, and a few additional items. In
total, Chevrolet produced approximately 166,000 Biscaynes roughly
half that of the Bel Air and a quarter of Impala production. This
particular '62 Biscayne is highly documented and comes to us from a
private collector who oversaw its professional frame-off
restoration completed less than 10 years ago and kept great care of
the car while under their stewardship. This 1962 Biscayne was also
a local racing legend of sorts holding all sorts of records at its
local drag strip. Under the hood is an upgraded 409 Cubic Inch V8
engine fed by dual 4 barrel carburetors that together produce 425
horsepower. The 409 V8 is mated to a 4 speed manual transmission
that makes this classic Chevy a total blast to drive. Exhaust exits
the 409 powerplant via dual exhaust setup that gives this Biscayne
a nice throaty sound out the rear. Power is sent to the rear wheels
via a positraction axle so that you can be sure that you'll keep
the rubber to the pavement. Riding on a set of 8.00-14 blackwall
bias-ply tires wrapped around painted steel wheels and accented by
chrome hubcaps, this '62 Biscayne has a classic period look going
down the road. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of
this 1962 Chevy is in superb, show quality condition. The exterior
has been correctly refinished in a beautiful Nassau Blue,
completing the exterior look of this 1962 Biscayne 409. The
interior on this Biscayne is top-notch! The front and rear bench
seats have been beautifully reupholstered in correct Fawn vinyl
with matching cloth inserts. The matching fawn dash, matching
upholstered door panels, headliner, carpeting and steering wheel
are all in excellent show-worthy condition and appear to be in
their stock configuration. With its extensive racing history, it's
no surprise seeing period-type racing upgrades including a single
driver's seat belt, 7,000 RPM column-mounted tachometer, and a pair
of Stewart Warner under-dash gauges including a temperature gauge
and oil pressure gauge. Stock instrumentation is still in place and
consists of a 120 MPH speedometer and fuel gauge, along with an
indicator light for engine temperature. Whether you're buying your
very first classic car or you're adding to your existing blue
bowtie collection, this 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne 409 would make an
excellent choice. Give us a call today at 763-428-7337!
