This Austin A40 is a left-hand-drive Devon 4-door saloon
that is powered by a 1200cc inline-4 paired with a 4-
speed manual transmission. It was reportedly purchased
new at O'Keefe Motors in Philadelphia, PA by Fitz Eugene
Dixon Jr., who owned the Philadelphia 76ers from 1976 -
1981 and was a member of the Widener family. The car
is said to been used by Dixon's mother and her staff on
the family's estate in Maine until it was relocated in 1972
to a family property in Pennsylvania. The car was
acquired from the Dixon's widow in 2010 with just over
14000 miles on the odometer. This A40 remains all
original to include paint, motor, interior etc. It is a mind
boggling time capsule.
The exterior paint is faded as one would expect, but the
car shows amazing structure. The interior remains all
original as well, the seats could be redone, however we
chose to keep the car the way it is and let the new owner
make decisions on refurbishment.
The engine fires right up and runs like a sewing machine
and drives out very well. At just under 17000 miles, this
A40 Devon is offered with factory tool kit and a ton of
documentation to include: Complete owner history,
complete service history, BMIHT Certificate, factory
literature, etc.
Great effort was executed to ensure mechanical fitness.
A wonderful example of British motoring.
