The Porsche 944, along with a few other select cars from the 1980s---is quickly becoming a cult classic.
However, finding a low mile, unmolested example is becoming a much more difficult task than it was several decades ago. Many of the best examples have fallen by the wayside or been modified to the point of being almost unrecognizable. The average 944 on the market today is in need of at least partial restoration or requires serious mechanical attention. Many have been raced or abused. Major repairs can be an expensive endeavor, even for the well connected. A budget buy can quickly turn into a money pit that ends up costing far more than anticipated.
Our 944 needs little to be a show quality example. It has been sorted mechanically, and the cosmetics are excellent. Car was repainted by the previous owner in the original black metallic finish. The interior is also fresh with clean upholstery. The only significant flaw is a few minor sun related dash cracks that will be repaired by our interior technicians prior to delivery. Remember first and foremost, Roadster Salon is a top tier restoration shop---not a corner used car dealer. We'll make sure it's right before it leaves our care.
The vintage driving experience is fun and entertaining. A fill up at a local gas station brought complements and smiles. Car shift smoothly and accelerates without protestation. Engine feels smooth with little vibration. Overall handling inspires confidence and feels contemporary. Braking was solid and uneventful. Exterior finish is free of dings or significant scratches. Overall appearance and road feel during our test loop was impressive for a nearly 40 year old car.
The price overlap between an excellent 944 and an average Boxster can be a bit deceiving. Although the more modern Porsche Boxster offers more performance, the 944 makes up for the difference with a more practical design that is easier to live with on a daily basis. Further, the 944 is very reliable and fairly inexpensive to maintain versus other Porsche models. Even the less skilled who enjoy doing their own work can tackle basic maintenance on a 944--which would be virtually impossible on a Boxster. But the biggest check mark in the win column for the 944 is its future potential for collectability. There are simply too many basic Boxsters on the market to have much upside potential in the near term. Conversely, a prime 944 is likely have a very stable upward trending value moving forward.
Our confidence in this particular 944 is reflected by Roaster offering a limited warranty with the car at no charge. Very fair price for the condition and miles. Please give us a call for details. It's lovely. GRADE "A"
