Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop
Mustang, Mustang, Mustang! to quote the television advertising in
1965. All the while urging you to walk on your wild side, and your
personality will go from dull to a thriller when you get behind the
wheel of a 1965 Ford Mustang!
For consignment, a mostly original example with light-handed
tasteful modifications to improve on the original. A former 6
cylinder car, now with a powerful V8 is here for the taking. A
ground up car restored 3 years ago, taking 2 years to complete with
new rear quarter panels, rockers, trunk floor, and a deep end of
the pool paint job. Now with added power steering, power brakes,
new suspension and described as a great driver, we present to you
the 1965 Ford Mustang.
Exterior
A Rangoon Red respray covers the exterior of this car and presents
with a deep end of the pool finish that goes on for miles. The
restored metal is very straight withwellminded gaps and bright and
shiny chrome and stainless trimmings. Thin mustache-like chrome
bumpers present well as does the grille surround and corralled
horse with its spear assembly. A Shelby GT350 style scoop is
adorning the hood and the freshman year Mustang cove is showing off
proudly finished in a custom brilliant white. Classic polished lip
15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels on all 4 corners and
area wrapped in 215/60R15 blackwall radial rubber. Bringing up the
tail end is the atypical pony car short trunk lid and below are the
always recognized3 segment chrome trimmed tail lights. A shout out
to the trunk with its black steel and gray underlayment liner.
Interior
Looking inside we are met with door panels covered in pristine
white vinyl tuck and roll with a redmolded surrounds and black
textured steel door frames with shiny chrome window cranks and door
releases. Red and white deluxe Pony buckets are up front and a rear
bench all show as keenly redone with no marks or tears. Red vinyl
makes up the smooth bolsters and for the inserts we see white tuck
and roll vinyl with a red galloping horse embossment on the seat
uppers. A chrome T-handle knobbed shifter can be seen growing from
the carpeted hump and between the buckets is an aftermarket console
with a storage bin and twin cup holders. A dual eyebrowed dash pad
sits atop the black full metal jacket dash which contains the
original instrument cluster, various chrome knobs and sliders, AM
radio, and glove box door. A wood rimmed 3 spoke wheel is perched
atop the fixed steering column and gives a nice touch to all the
black. A clean red carpet floods the floors and is protected by
carpeted Mustang logo mats while a tight black vinyl headliner
hangs above.
Drivetrain
A beautiful blinged out and rebuilt 289ci V8 sits comfortably in
the black engine bay. Ford Blue paint bathes the block, cylinder
heads, intake and valve covers, and has been fitted with a solid
flat tappet performance camshaft and Holley 600cfm 4-barrel
carburetor. The bling factor comes in the form of a chrome
Edelbrock air cleaner assembly, and I can't get enough of the
FoMoCo windshield washer bag. Bolted to the back of the powerful
mill is a C4 3-speed automatic. Out back is a Ford 8" rear axle to
spin the tires.
Undercarriage
All good under here with no rust, all front suspension and steering
components appear to be new with independent coil springs and power
drum brakes. Not to be outdone, the rear sports new shocks and leaf
springs and power drum brakes also. Dual exhaust snakes its way
rearward and is toned down by a pair of stainless steel mufflers.
Bringing up the rear is a new gas tank.
Drive-Ability
The candles lit right up, running on all 8 cylinders, and gave us a
real ride. No bucking bronco here very smooth from the well-done
restoration. All functions were operational at the time of our
drive, oh and did I mention it's fast too!
Keeping its original looks then taking some liberties with an
eye-catching paint scheme and matching interior, this consignor did
a fab job on the add ons. Visually it's stunning, and speaking from
the seat of my pants, it's powerful! The Rangoon Red and the Torque
Thrusts bring it right down to earth in a heavenly way. All
original cars are cool, but this slightly tweaked in design and
performance is definitely the way to go with a 1965 pony.
