Vehicle Description
Clean western truck. Nice running 302, automatic. Recently
serviced, new tonneau cover and bed mat, new 17-inch aluminum
wheels with BFGoodrich tires. Beautiful interior. Marti Report. A
handsome F150 ready to work or play!

This
handsome Ford F150 was originally delivered in Idaho and spent its
life there, spared the worst of winter weather. As a result, it's
extremely clean and straight with no signs of it ever being a rusty
truck. We believe the paint is original, and that means no
surprises under the surface. The color is called Dark Chamois
Metallic, and we have to admit that it has grown on us, especially
with the shiny aluminum wheels. It certainly has that rugged,
squared-off look that made the F150 the best-selling vehicle in the
world in the 1980s. Panel fit is just the way the factory did it
and there are no signs that this truck ever had to really work for
a living. Someone really cared about it. The chrome shines up
nicely, there's a strip of stainless down its flanks to add some
contrast, and the big FORD block letters on the hood are a nice
touch. You'll also note a heavy-duty hitch out back with
trailer-style mirrors, in case you want to use it for some hauling,
and the bed is outfitted with both a new rubber mat and a fresh
tonneau cover. There are plenty of scuffs and scratches in the bed
from being used as intended, but not rust or rot or other critical
damage. This truck lived a pretty easy life.

The
interior is in excellent condition, a handsome color Ford called
Nutmeg. The bench seat remains comfortable and firm, the carpets
are protected by a set of matching carpeted floor mats, and even
those plastic door panels are in great shape without any of the
usual cracks and fading from age. The woodgained dash is pure early
'80s kitsch but that's how it was built so we're OK with that.
There is a full set of gauges to monitor the engine, with warning
lights along the top row. Entertainment is basic with just an AM
radio (rebuilt and working properly), but in 1981, people weren't
buying trucks as their primary transportation-these were still
tools for the working person. The windshield is new and the weather
seals have been replaced, so it's relatively quiet at speed. The
fact that it is so well preserved is simply a pleasant surprise.
There is no headliner to worry about, so that's another point in
favor of simplicity. It's a simple truck and it's holding up quite
well.

The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8 with a
2-barrel carburetor, a combination that was perfected decades
before this truck was even built. Torque and reliability, that's
the name of the game here. It starts easily, idles well, and just
goes about its business without much fuss. It's a little grumpy
when it's cold (remember this is still a carburetor with a choke)
but it gets the job done. The engine bay is completely stock and
there are a lot of new parts, including a fresh 2150 2V Autolite
carburetor, a fresh power brake booster and master cylinder (the
rear drum brakes have been completely rebuilt), and fresh fluids
throughout. You'll find factory-applied Ford Blue engine enamel and
super clean inner panels, more evidence that this truck never
suffered out in winter weather. The F150 received a heavy-duty C6
3-speed automatic transmission and with 2.75 gears in the rear end,
it's comfortable at highway speeds. You can see just how clean this
truck is underneath, as it has crisp stamping lines and solid
floors, all protected by a film of oil. There's also a recent
alignment, fresh exhaust system with a suitably muted V8 burble,
and as we mentioned, those 17-inch wheels and 265/60/17 BFGoodrich
radials look fantastic.

Documentation includes
the original owner's manual and a Deluxe Marti
Report.

We've seen the popularity of these
