Vehicle Description
1967 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 2 Door Hardtop
Reading the 1967 Ford Galaxie magazine ads, Ford did everything in
their power to push the point of strength and durability, as well
as quiet ride. They jumped the Galaxie 500 off the Ski Jump in Lake
Placid, they did a steeple chase with the car. Anything they could
to prove the point of solid construction. Well-constructed, yes,
but quietly the car was making the point that the engine was large
enough not only to move the car smoothly, but really fast. Looks
like a family car, performs like a muscle car, although the term
muscle car was in its infancy...but they were working on it.
This beautiful, 1 of 3 built in this paint and trim combo as per
the Deluxe Marti Report, 1967 Galaxie 500 XL, has been redone in
2001 at the 75,000 mile mark with not only strength and durability
in mind, but also a big emphasis on beauty. At the same time the
engine was rebuilt and the body was treated to all new metal with
the exception of the doors and half of the main shell. Nice
straight lines, great gaps, all steel, chrome and vinyl, a
beautiful example of a Ford classic that you can literally get in,
turn the key and start the party.
Exterior
Candyapple Red adorns the exterior, and upon a closerglance shows
with afew chips, touch ups, and a color mis-match repair on top of
the driver's front quarter panel. One has to look very hard to find
a few bubbles forming behind the paint on the lower end of the
front fenders and driver's door, but they are there. The britework
in front and in back with bumpers and grille as well as trim work
remains bright and shiny. The bumpers remain straight and very
clean, as is the front grille, and stacked front headlight bezels.
Shiny window surrounds have new rubber trim inserted and are in
very nice condition all framing tinted glass. The edge trim shows
some patina, but is otherwise unremarkable. A black andstainless
trim spear runs between the wheel wells of the car just above the
rockers and meets up with the wheel house molding thencontinues on
dressing the front and rear quarter panels.. All glass is clean and
scratch free and on the expansive roof is a like new black vinyl
top which adds a touch of class to this large and in charge car.
15-inch steel wheels with turbine style wheel covers are wrapped in
medium width whitewall 205/75R15 tires from the 50th week of 2019.
Rectangular tail lights are on the back showing the future of the
Galaxy design. Meet George Jetson...
Interior
Going from the ground up, new black carpet covers all floor
surfaces. The black vinyl bucket seats in front are showing nicely
with no tears or rips and have maintained their shape. At first
glance we think the passenger's seat may have been swapped out, but
after viewing the Marti Report we realize this is the not often
seen optional reclining passenger bucket seat. The rear bench
appears virtually new and matches the front buckets with pattern
and texture. A wonderful center console, in black and chromed
plastic and metal shows slight wear but is in good condition. A
small glovebox, seat belt receivers and the T-handle shifter reside
here. Of note, the 1st and 2nd gear designator tabs for the floor
shifter have gone missing from the shifter insert. Factory gauges
fill the dash in a thin horizontal band and just below resides a
ribbed stainless panel holding various knobs, pulls, the factory
AM/FM radio and the heater slides. A padded topper resides up high
and is near perfect, having no sun damage or cracks. The door
panels appear as new with paddedvertical tuck and roll vinyl, some
chrome dress up, and a padded armrest. A new headliner tops the
interior off. Not to be overlooked is the speckle painted truck
with its plaid liner and room for all your luggage plus a few of
your friends.
Drivetrain
A rebuilt in 2001 390ci V8 is topped by a 2-barrel carburetor and
bolted to a 3-speed automatic C6 transmission that shifts smooth as
silk. On the back is a Ford 9 inch rear axle with 2.75 gears
within. Overall, the engine bay is very clean and fully restored to
look like it just left the factory floor. All new wiring, hoses,
radiator, non corroded or rusted master cylinder and Ford Blue
painted block and valve coverings along with the correct single
snout air cleaner complete the snapshot of the bay.
Undercarriage
Looking underneath, a virtually rust free, (including surface
rust), environment can be seen. Looking like a fresh light spray of
undercoating was recently applied as you can see the overspray
markings, but it's all good as to any rust situation. The frame is
very stable as is the junction of the body and the frame. We note
some slight patina on the stamped floor pans but they also remain
free from corrosion. Also, a newly installed stock style dual
exhaust system is noted. Independent coil springs for the front,
and a 4 link with coil springs on back provides the ride, and drum
brakes are noted all around.
Drive-Ability
What can I say, lots of POWER when one presses the GO pedal ever so
slightly! It might be the 390 cubes and the 2bbl working in unison,
albeit very smoothly. Bias free panic stopping, smooth steering,
and all is working nicely.
An overall nice presentation, good running, smooth shifting, turn
key '67 ready for more fun miles, right here at Classic Auto Mall.
Solid! Cue the jazzy music and this car will not fold up into a
briefcase when you enter Spacely Sprockets, however it will do a
great job of adding bling to your driveway!
