Vehicle Description
1955 Ford F100 Pickup
The Ford F100 series of pickup trucks are loved in the United
States and around the world for their simple, approachable design,
and reliable load-carrying ability. Over the past few years classic
car collectors have been turning their attention to classic trucks
and 4x4s, and wonderful factory-built vehicles like this 1956 Ford
F100 pickup are in significant demand.
For consignment, this fabulously restored and lightly rodded rare
catch 1955 example of the Ford F100 pickup bathed in red. Some
fresh drivetrain parts including a 302ci Ford mill, all steel, no
rust, maple bedded, upgraded brakes and other mechanicals and paint
as deep as the diving well at the county pool, (do they do that
anymore?). Lawyers, guns, and money have put the kibosh on this
"dangerous to snowflakes activities". Call your lawyer so I can
have my freedom of speech taken away!
Exterior
A close inspection of this truck, one notes a few flaws in the
passenger's front fender and door, but nothing to detract from the
overall beauty. As noted, red paint bathes super straight steel
panels which are very much minding their gaps. We are still in the
exterior bulbous fender age connected by the running board era,
although as with the rear fender, they are starting to melt into
the actual body. A small body matching running board, with a nifty
shiny cloisonne' badged foot plate, will guide you into the snazzy
interior. The remaining badging is all there and very nice. The
front grille, courtesy of a 1956 F100 is completely chromed and
looks like it was just driven off of the showroom floor. So does
the simple bumper framing the bottom of the grille. On the large
curved downward front hood, complete with front mounted hinges for
easy wrenching access to the mill and its trimmings and bolt ons.
All blacked out window surrounds are beautiful as are the chrome
exterior mirrors, and handles. Clean and clear glass frames the
cabin and through this glass we can see the freshly minted oak bed
and chrome mounted ribbed bed which has had nothing in it but
stocking covered feet, and has pristine sides to this bed. Our
consignor notes that this bed is a courtesy of Dennis Carpenter, as
is the custom tailgate with an airbrushed Ford logo in the center
and below on the roll pan is a shiny chromed simple bumper with
dual exhaust tips peeking out of the bottom. Deep dish American
Racing wheels are wrapped in staggered width Cooper raised white
letter rubber on all 4 corners.
Interior
Flip open either of the 2 doors and black vinyl door panels with a
stitched red insert greet us. These are framed by red painted steel
upper and lower sills and have been dressed with shiny cranks and
actuators. The original design of the single curved metal dash
instrument cluster houses a semicircular speedo and we note the
addition of a few aftermarket gauges to help keep an eye on engine
vitals. A Pilot 3 spoke thick rimmed steering wheel sits atop a
Flaming River adjustable column and fronts this shiny and pristine
original dash. Clean black carpeting is on the floors and floating
above is the full bench with a full custom upholstery job. Smooth
black vinyl frames charcoal black broadcloth inserts with some red
Ford logoing and flames stitched in for good measure. Snappy red
piping sets the seats off perfectly and I'm chafing in my shorts to
get a chance to sit in this seat for my test drive. Just behind is
a large rear glass which bathes the interior with light and enables
the driver unlimited rear vision. A Lokar shifter lever reaches for
the driver from the black vinyl and red piped console and has a
silver knob topper. Just above is a modern Sony AM/FM/CD stereo for
your listening pleasure.
Drivetrain
Flipping the clamshell hood forward we see a Ford 302ci V8 engine
that our consignor states is from a mid 1990's SVT Ford product. It
has a mild performance based roller cam installed as well as roller
rockers. It has a polished open air cleaner cover, polished Ford
Racing valve covers and a nicely showing polished intake topped by
a polished 4-barrel carburetor. Ford electronic ignition is now on
to help keep the fire lit. On the back is an AOD 4-speed automatic
transmission and way back is a Ford 9 inch rear. All is cool with
the new heavy duty Dodge radiator and new water pump. Nice steel
headers sea snake downward to the belly of this beast and melt into
a Flowmaster muffler dual exhaust.
Undercarriage
A Ford F-100 frame is under this beautiful showroom stamped steel
floor-boarded structure and shows not even a hint of rust. Leaf
springs, with new mono-leaf springs in the front, provide the ride
and for the stopping, power disc brakes are in front and power
drums are in back. Clean as a whistle.
Drive-Ability
My partner in crime and I could not wait to dive into this beauty,
and it did not disappoint. Stylin would best describe the feeling
when inside. She fired right up and it was off to the test track.
Here she showed us her stuff with snappy acceleration, good
handling, and awesome stopping power. Inside, a fairly quiet ride
thanks to added sound deadener, but outside a great exhaust sound
resonates through the valley of our test track. As we slipped off
the track and headed back to the mall, a satisfied look was seen on
both our faces as we were hooked! We noted the horn wouldn't beep
and the speedometer tends to bounce around while driving.
Currently the ONLY example of this year F100 pickup in our vast
inventory. A well done restoration and souped up with a hot V8
engine, new brakes, new suspension parts, and exhaust. Paint as
deep as the Mariana Trench, here at Classic Auto Mall. Hurry in as
this will not take long to be caught, and for the price as it is,
you certainly will not be left underwater. I know I'm hooked, just
get me on the boat!
