Vehicle Description
Sometimes we buy a drop-top classic because we want to see everyone
else smile as we drive by... but we bet the only looks this one
gets are long stares of pure jealousy. It's a 1969 Oldsmobile 442
convertible that was carefully built over two decades to be extra
sleek, extra clean, and absolutely mean. So check out everything
from the professionally-built 496 big block to the undercarriage
that looks fresher than factory.
This drop-top looks beautiful, but people may just be interested
more in its history. There is a large receipt binder, and the first
page tells the tale of this Olds being rescued from a Texas field
in 1986. The next 20+ years would be about one man doing a
meticulous restoration, and he even made sure a professional shop
did the finish work. So you have a labor of love that also has seen
professional investments. And since this car has seen the best of
everything, its subsequent owners have treated it with the highest
respect. In fact, since this has an award-worthy presentation, it
seems only right that the factory-correct color is called Trophy
Blue. It has a beautiful radiance in the sunlight to make sure that
this smooth finish shows off the sleek curves of this Olds. And
this one really does get the best details right with the
mirror-like chrome bumpers, a taut-fitting soft top, and the racing
stripes painted on for a sharp-looking permanence. Plus, the 1969
model is coveted for having the trim line that starts at the
headlights and highlights the body's wave-like silhouette all the
way to the tail lights. But there's more here than just classic
excellence. This is a real-deal 442, and it enhances that
performance attitude with details like the polished Torq Thrust
wheels. And we especially love how you can see the red calipers
peeking out from the ones, and the rear is much meatier for a very
powerful stance. So this car shows off style and substance all at
the first glance.
For the same reason we like the look of the black roof against the
dark black paint, you're going to love the look of the full black
interior. It's beautifully done with detailed Oldsmobile
upholstery, clean door panels, a smooth dash, and cool 442 floor
mats done in blue to coordinate with the exterior. The idea here
was to take it back to the original style, and so you'll even love
the little things like the working classic AM/FM radio, smooth
walnut-like wood trim, and all the interior lights that greet you
when the door opens. And because this is premium Olds, you also
have the desirable luxury duo of power windows and a power
convertible top. And as a true 442, this speaks to your
enthusiast's heart with front bucket seats, a floor shift center
console, auxiliary readouts, and a classic three-spoke steering
wheel. And not only were the sporty round gauges restored to a
jewel-like shine, but also the clock even works to give you a
proper tic-toc-tach!
Under the hood is a beautiful presentation for a beast of a motor.
So the dark and tidy inner walls really know how to put the clean
and shining V8 on display. That's a good thing because Olds fans
know those Mondello valve covers mean a lot. It means professional
parts in this professional motor build, and the spec sheet we have
says this is a 455 cubic-inch V8 enlarged to 496ci total. It was
further enhanced and fortified with an Eagle crankshaft, Eagle
H-rods, forged pistons using 12.5:1, a Comp Cams roller camshaft,
Crane roller rockers, an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, and topped with
a newer Holley 850 double-pumper four-barrel carburetor. There are
also good supporting components, like a Holley electric fuel pump,
an electric fan, and a Mach serpentine belt system. Plus, headers
add even more power while feeding the custom mandrel-bent 3-inch
custom X-pipe dual exhaust. It's a strong runner, and it's said the
odometer reflects the mileage on the motor. The undercharge photos
look amazing, and so you can see all the clean upgrades like the
poly bushings, strong rear arms, thick sway bar, and Moser diff
cover. And it's a solid all-around driver with a stoutly rebuilt
TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power
brakes, and Baer front discs with drilled & slotted rotors.
The sale comes complete with a detailed file of build receipts,
maintenance records, restoration photos, and the car's story.
There's also a car cover, factory wheels, and other desirable
components. You even get the correct 442-style rear bumper in case
you want to add it back. This was altered because the larger
exhaust pipes did not fit into the classic 442 notched design.
That's just another detail that really helps you understand just
how much thought went into this passion project. It's why this car
has no equal, and it's also why you don't want to miss your
opportunity to own it. Call today!!!
