Vehicle Description
This 1970 Pontiac Trans Am Tribute Restomod has a long name, and
that's because it has a lot of what you love. It's an iconic year
for styling mixed with upgrades like a fuel-injected LS2 motor and
an overdrive transmission. So when a bright red coupe with serious
V8 power comes your way, you know it's time to take notice.
This was the debut year for the 2nd generation Firebird. It was
quite a revolutionary design and a short model year, so these
always feel a bit special. This one takes it up a notch with its
upgraded Trans Am style fully done in a sleek red. So that unique
front end with the integrated urethane bumper/nose looks extra
bold. And you have color-matched features like the full front
spoiler/fender flares, the three-piece rear spoiler, and the
distinctly painted bumper. The sea of red is broken up by a nice
dark side with the twin grilles, tinted glass, and blacked-out rear
panels. Of course, the meanest darkness is the black center of the
flaming hood bird. And this has all your favorite details with the
shaker-style hood, dual exhaust tips, and iconic honeycomb wheels
(that are actually modern Year One 17-inch alloys.)
The interior has a very cool sense of style. For example, you get
the low-back front bucket seats that were exclusive to 1970, but
they are done with custom red stitching to match the rear seat and
floor mats. The overall impression is a driver-quality setup and
that means it's driver-ready. After all, you have nice anytime
features like the AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth, a subwoofer
speaker system, and a tilt steering column. There is even some
hardware already installed like Dakota Digital gauges and R134a air
conditioning that will just need additional servicing to fully
function.
Under the hood is the best upgrade of them all. This is a
fuel-injected 6.0-liter LS2 V8 - just like what you found in the
final years of the GTO. It has a nice look with the bold red within
the dark engine bay, and the faux shaker fits nicely on top. There
are also nice supporting components, like an aluminum radiator,
electric fans, and a Wilwood master cylinder. This fires up
eagerly, and the Doug's long tube headers help and power and growl
to the dual exhaust. The 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission is
a stout unit built to handle big power, and it feeds a strong
12-bolt rear end. There's also power steering, power brakes, front
discs, and modern sport tires afforded by the wheel upgrade.
This is an iconic coupe with mean looks and an even meaner heart.
