West Coast Classics are proud to present this absolutely
exceptional and stunning example of this virtually all stock and
completely rust and accident free and very rare 1940 Mercury 09A 2
Door Convertible Coupe with it's reliable and virtually
bullet-proof 239 L head V8 engine (a slightly larger version of
Ford's 'V8/85' having the same stroke but larger bore with brake
horsepower of 100 in '41) with a manual synchromesh 3 speed
transmission and mildly customized with performance upgrades
resulting in the ultimate 50s style cruiser. Solid original car
that was fully restored a few years ago!Mercury quickly gained a
reputation for performance appropriate to it's name (after the
winged messenger God in Greek mythology) with well tuned models
being quicker than the V8 Fords and capable of up to 100mph.
Mercury bowed on a 116 inch wheelbase, four inches longer than the
Ford's and sufficient to give its similar styling a more impressive
and striking look. A dashboard with strip type instruments also
like Ford's but with Mercury's innovative column mounted gearshift.
Models expanded in '41, except for the sedan convertible which was
dropped, and were restyled with a 2" longer wheelbase with higher
fenders, a divider bar grille and fender top parking
lights.Gorgeous show quality paint and body in 'Surf Blue'. Very
straight panels with excellent body gaps throughout. Paint is fully
sanded and buffed for a mirror finish. All chrome and stainless was
restored at time of restoration. Fender skirts are removable if you
prefer that look.Interior shows great in 'Oxblood Red' with a Tan
canvas power top. A custom Banjo steering wheel was added and gives
more seating room. Power top works great and top is in good
condition with no holes but shows some age. Top has a black canvas
boot that looks great installed. The flathead V8 has been upgraded
with fully polished Offenhauser heads and dual Stromburg intake,
MSD electronic ignition, and Reds Headers with full dual exhaust.
The 3 speed transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and
the Hydraulic brakes stop the car well. Rolls on Radial wide
whitewall tires. car has a slightly lowered stance for the 50s
traditional custom look. The complete wiring harness was replaced
with a new factory correct cloth bound harness. All of the gauges
work well.Recently acquired from a prominent collection, this
particular car has been absolutely beautifully frame off restored
with no expense spared and with extraordinary attention to detail
and which is finished in a striking 'Surf Blue' color with a
striking 'Oxblood Red' leather interior and a new convertible power
soft top. The car looks absolutely beautiful and has been
professionally restored throughout with the whole car in quite
exceptional condition throughout! The original spare wheel is in
its rightful storage place in the trunk. The Flathead 239 95HP V8
engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car
drives magnificently - must be driven to be believed - drives
straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or
rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern
day car a run for it's money! This is a rare opportunity to own a
fabulous and peerless and most likely incomparable example of this
1940 Mercury 2 Door Convertible Coupe in simply superb condition
