For Sale: 1968 Porsche 912 in Newark, California

Vehicle Description

This 1968 Porsche 912 coupe was handed down from the original owner to his daughter within the last few years. It receives power from a reportedly numbers-matching, rebuilt 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes chrome wheels, newer paint, a rebuilt Solex carburetor, and an aftermarket third brake light. Finished in Guards Red over a black vinyl interior, this 912 is offered with a clear title in the current owner's name.

The current Guards Red finish was reportedly applied in the 1980s in place of the original British Racing Green paint scheme. Exterior features include chrome bumpers with guards, a driver-side mirror, rocker moldings, an added third brake lamp, a vented engine cover, and a single exhaust outlet. According to the seller, the front bumper was repaired in 1992.

The chrome-finished 15-inch wheels are wrapped in 165/80 Classic Radial LL800 all-season tires installed in 2012.

The 2+2 interior is equipped with black perforated vinyl bucket seats up front and twin seats in the rear, matched to the door panels, padded dash, and carpeting. Features include floor mats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, aftermarket three-point seat belts, a Sony AM/FM/CD radio, aluminum dash trim, and vent windows. The seller notes that rust under the driver's side of the car was repaired and new metal was welded into place.

The VDO-branded instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 6,878 miles, which the seller asserts is indicative of 206,878 total miles accrued.

The rear-mounted and reportedly numbers-matching 1.6-liter flat-four was rated at 90 horsepower and 91 lb-ft of torque when new. It was rebuilt in 1994 and is fed by a rebuilt Solex carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted five-speed manual transaxle with a dog-leg shift pattern.
