Vehicle Description
1972 GMC C1500 Pickup
If you love old Chevy and GMC trucks it might be because you have
memories from when you were a kid riding in one of those early
models. Or you might just love the classic lines and the way they
look. The C series is a line of GM 2-wheel drive trucks, while the
K series is a line of GM 4-wheel drive trucks. Beginning in 1960,
trucks of this generation were named as 10, 20, and 30 series to
represent the 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton versions of GM's light truck
line. Introduced for the 1960 model year, the C/K series was
marketed by Chevrolet until 2002 in the United States, (GMC
marketed the series from 1960 to 1987).
For consignment, a one family owner truck purchased new in 1972 at
Wenger GMC Pontiac in Buck PA. It saw its last inspection sticker
in 2009, and has undergone a restoration in the late 90's which
included a new bed and a fresh respray. The truck's exterior is
rust free, has the factory interior which shows nicely, and has a
mere 1K miles put on since that last inspection in 2009. Definitely
worth a gander!
Exterior
Clean Medium Red sandwiches a white mid-section on the straight
steel panels of this truck. Overall the paint is good with nary a
spec of rust to be seen. The cab roof is painted white, and also on
those side panels as a delineation marker made of a stainless and
black painted trim spear runs the length of the truck. On the
bottom of the white is more stainless with a wide black stripe
bordering a shiny stainless. The rockers are red as is the interior
of the bed. We see gaps that are nicely minded throughout, and the
grille up front is looking spiffy with its dual headlights and
split rectangular chrome and shiny bumper below. Just behind the
cab is the bed which was restored then painted red. It includes
wood planks with nary a mark and some stainless steel painted red
dividers. The bed sides and tailgate are excellent with no
scratches for dings. On the very back is more red and white with
the trimming running across the top to match the sides and a strip
of wood applique with GMC central badging. Another shiny bumper is
framing the bottom of the rear roll pan. 15-inch deep dish GMC
badged truck rally style sport wheels are on all 4 corners and all
wrapped with 225/75R15 thin whitewall rubber from 2003 all in good
condition. All badging is on and accounted for and the truck
presents in overall very good condition for the exterior.
Interior
A swing of the chromed mirror adorned doors and we see Sheridan
style embossing on a mid-door black vinyl panel which houses the
actuators and chrome window cranks. On its upper edge are red
painted metal sills and white window frame surrounds. Inside, your
eyes are bowled over by smooth black vinyl bolsters in the form of
a bench with gray and black striped subtle floral pattern strips in
the central broadcloth inserts. This stretching bench presents as
new as it was part of the restoration looking very much showroom.
It sports a central Sheridan style embossing in the black center
panel just like the doors. The steering wheel is a 2 spoke style
mounted atop a standard black painted steering column. This fronts
a restored dash with a red steel face and a textured black panel
with round shiny bezel gauges inserted within. The dash continues
across and in the center is a factory AM/FM stereo and a temp
slider control panel just below. Up top is a black vinyl padded
topper that is free of cracks. Down low is like new black rubber
flooring which is very clean and covering the roof is a red painted
ribbed steel with some black sun visors next to the front glass.
For the passenger is a black painted shiny glove box door and an
eyeball AC vent.
Drivetrain
Upfront under the hood within a wonderfully restored engine bay
sits a correct 350ci V8 painted in GM orange /red. It has a black
snoot style air cleaner covering a 4-barrel carburetor. Meanwhile,
bolted to the back is a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. This
pushes mill power back to a 12 bolt rear axle. A single stock
exhaust is on for the exhale.
Undercarriage
As we take a deep dive underneath we see nothing but clean black
painted surfaces for the wood bed undersides, framing and body
hangers. Also in are clean black painted independent coil springs
for the front and leaf springs for the back. Fender undersides and
rockers are also clean black painted non dirty surfaces. There is
no invasive rust anywhere to be seen, and noted the engine shows as
very clean on the bottom end. Power front disc brakes are working
in conjunction with power rear drums. Talk about bringing a mirror
to show off the underside..WOW!
Drive-Ability
I love the perspective one gets behind the wheel of one of these
classic early 70's GMC's. That said, this truck fired right up with
the twist of the key and off to the test track I went. On the track
the truck performed with adequate power, good bias free braking and
superior handling. A smooth ride for a truck as well. The AC blew
warm and has an idler pulley bearing noise, also the radio was non
functional and there is a small hole in the muffler.
An earlier restoration which was done very well, and on a very
popular truck with 2WD, all factory interior, and a beautifully
restored clean undercarriage. Super low miles on this beauty as it
has a mere 1K since 2009 for a grand total of 29,230 that sadly
aren't verifiable, but thanks to the restoration definitely looks
the part. Act fast, these tend to fly out the door especially in
this condition.
