Vehicle Description
2018 Subaru WRX STI Sedan
Few cars have democratized performance like the Subaru WRX and STI.
From forbidden fruit JDM roadgoing rally car to today's
family-friendly turbocharged all-rounder, the WRX offers all the
flexibility of a Swiss Army knife. Four doors and a hood scoop. Fun
in the corners. And when the tarmac runs out, the party just gets
louder. Long before the WRX arrived, Subaru had already established
the turbocharged pancake four and all-wheel-drive rally recipe with
performance versions of the Legacy sedan. In 1992, the more compact
Impreza arrived, intended as a replacement for the boxy Loyale.
Cramming gravel-focused performance into a smaller package was a no
brainer. The GC chassis WRX were potent machines, available first
as a sedan and later in coupe and hatchback variants. A five-speed
manual was standard, as were twin viscous limited slip
differentials and the EJ207 flat-four engine. The turbocharged
boxer motor made 237 hp initially and responded eagerly to
modification. Subaru called their creation the Impreza WRX for
World Rally eXperimental. Starting in 1994, STI versions of the WRX
arrived. Established in 1988, Subaru Tecnica International, (at
first shortened to STi, later STI), was Subaru's motorsport
division. The first WRXs to receive the cherry-blossom-pink STI
badge were taken off the line and fitted with upgraded parts.
Subaru quickly switched to building STIs alongside WRXs, then began
cranking out special variants. -Thx to Roadandtrack.com
The floor of our massive Hallowed Halls are now graced with the
presence of our first Subaru, and this one happens to be a WRX with
the STI package. Purchased new by our consignor on 11/6/17, with
symmetrical all wheel drive, a mere 17,502 title verified actual
miles, and with no engine modifications, this car is extremely fast
and nimble. Professionally installed tint, a dealer installed SPT
cat back exhaust, and a pro-done ceramic coating, you'd be hard
pressed to find one this nice on the local used car lots, and even
harder pressed to find one priced better.
Exterior
Draped in Crystal Black Silica, this car retains all of its
original look. Integrated bumpers, aerodynamically designed
headlights, a chiseled and rounded front grille, swept back
windshield, and perfectly aligned doors and wrap around rear
quarters lets you cut through any wind tunnel testing and become
king of not only the street, but also the gravel raceway. A
sinister wide oval hood scoop, tall rear spoiler and rear diffuser
all add to the menacing overall look of the car. Chrome is kept to
a minimum, only appearing on the basic badging and a snazzy
shark-fin antenna isup high on the roof. Sexy graphite colored
multi-spoke 19-inch STI wheels adorn all 4 corners and are wrapped
in 235/45R19 black wallsfrom the 7th week of 2022. Our consignor
notes that these tires were not replaced due to abuse and wear, but
due to an unrepairable puncture in one of the original tires.
Interior
Making the rear seats jealous, Recaro suede and leather black
bucket seats are reserved for the pilot and navigator. Some oxblood
red stripe inserts are seen running through the seats along with
the Recaro stitched lettering. The rear bench follows suit in
materials and colors, but is without the Recaro badging. These
seats remain as new, speaking to the care our consignor took with
this car. Vibrant red and white instruments glow on a black
background in front of the original steering wheel and a pop up
display on top of the dash is your monitor for time, temperature
and boost. In the center of the seats is a black leather red
stitched console with a padded armrest, storage compartment, and
factory STI short throw shifter within a piano black insert. Just
above is another storage cubby, dials for the dual zone climate
control and the factory AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth/XM/Starlink capable
sound system that is only out shouted by the engine. The black
feltedheadliner above is nice and tight, and the black carpet which
floods the floor is tidy with no stains or fading.
Drivetrain
You are going to want to stick around for this one. Under the
scooped hood lurks a 2.5 Liter DOHC turbocharged pancake, (boxer 4
cylinder), engine making a factory rated 305hp. It is fed by
electronic fuel injection to feed fuel and fossils to the mill at
an alarming rate. The original 6-speed transmission in manual form
is strapped to the back of this healthy mill and pushes power to
the back and front limited slip axles with 3.90 gearing. The
factory downpipe and converter are still in place, and we note a
SPT dealership installed cat back exhaust system. Our consignor
notes that a "no name" muffler delete cat-back exhaust is included
if you wish.
Undercarriage
Unbelievably clean and rust-free underneath, with not even a hint
of surface rust on any structural part. Power disc brakes are all
around and factory beefed up independent coil spring suspension is
noted as well. The bottom end of the engine shows nary a drip of
any oil and is dry as a bone overall. Obviously well cared for.
Drive-Ability
When someone says rally car, I say we shall see, and this car did
not disappoint. It started right up with that sound only a Subaru
can produce and let me tell you for free it has plenty of power!
The car handled very well, slid into turns nicely, and had great
braking, which with 305 horses going to all four wheels is
extremely important. A goer and a shower and is a nice comfortable
cruiser to boot. Just don't let anyone fool with you or they will
be very sorry.
This is a JDM engineering on steroids with its Recaro seat, healthy
mill, STI short throw racing shifter attached to the 6-speed, all
with the glorious sound of a turbocharger. 1 owner,
