SALE PENDING to Portugal!! This is a gorgeous 1933 Rolls-Royce
Phantom II Saloon with Division by Thrupp & Maberly of London
(160MS) that has been thoroughly restored and maintained and is
perfect for touring or show. The design features its low profile
raked windshield and close coupled passenger compartment, which
look fantastic on this long wheelbase chassis. Having been restored
as needed over the years and very well maintained and serviced,
this Phantom II is ready to be enjoyed. This Rolls was ordered on
October 6, 1932, by Auto Auctions Ltd for William H. McAlpine and
its chassis was completed and delivered to Thrupp & Maberly in
London on December 22, 1932. Thrupp & Maberly was a highly
respected coachbuilder advertising the fact that they were popular
coachbuilders to the Royal Family. The Rolls was completed on
February 23, 1933 and was delivered to McAlpine on June 2, 1933.
The ownership history is quite complete and includes several
notable owners including Colonel Sir Henry Ferryman Bowles, First
Baronet, MP who was the first President of the Middlesex County
Automobile Club. By 1991 through 1994, 160MS was owned by Peter
Vernon Kell of Surry. Mr. Kell commissioned a comprehensive
restoration down to its bare chassis. In 2001, Mr. Kell
commissioned Derek Skilton of East Sussex to re-trim the interior.
The engine had a lower end engine rebuild, radiator restored, and
the chassis re-wired in 2004 by the Rolls-Royce specialist at
McKenzie Guppy Ltd in Dorset. By 2020, Mr. James Rice acquired the
Phantom II from Vintage & Prestige Cars in Northampton, England and
had it shipped to Beverly Hills, CA. Mr. Rice commissioned a top
engine rebuild, new Llamar wheel discs and a new clutch installed
in 2023. 160MS is now ready for touring or concours events. The
livery is in two tone Black and Burgundy that is in very good
condition with excellent shine and luster. High use areas, such as
near the hood and doors show some wear, but overall it is simply
stunning. The Burgundy has a very slight luminescence that is only
perceptible with direct sunlight, when it surprisingly comes to
life. The chrome and stainless are in excellent condition. The
polished Llamar wheel discs are new as are the new black walled
Michelin tires. The everflex covered trunk is a fantastic look,
making this elegant motorcar appear more as a sportscar. The
distance from the windshield to the front of the iconic Rolls-Royce
grill is about six feet, which is nearly the same length of the
passenger compartment. The height of the center of the windshield
is about 11 inches. These design proportions really hint towards a
racy and sexy sports saloon. Thrupp & Maberly really got the design
right. The interior is in overall excellent condition with its soft
and supple Burgundy pleated Leather for the chauffeurs compartment,
complemented with Burgundy Wilton wool carpeting and gorgeous burl
wood and straight grained wood. There is some milking in the finish
of the wood only in the front door cap panels. The Burgundy leather
front door panels feature a starburst design that is reminiscent of
art deco. The dashboard has a beautiful display of instruments and
switches, including a wonderful Bakelite cigar lighter. The rear
passenger compartment features soft and supple Cream Leather
pleated hides and cream silk headlining. The Burgundy Wilton wool
carpeting is nearly as new. The wood in the rear compartment is
nearly perfect as well and is simply stunning. 160MS also features
beautiful grab handles and mirrored vanities with cigar lighters.
The rear door panels are Cream leather and also feature the
stunning starburst design. The engine compartment is detailed for
show and is fantastic, showing the incredible advances in
engineering that Rolls-Royce had made by 1933. The venerable 7.7
liter (468 cid) pushrod-OHV straight six was a refined version of
the New Phantom (PI) with a new crossflow cylinder head.
Synchromesh had been added to third and fourth gears making for a
much more refined driving experience. This engine and the cooling
system have all been rebuilt and are in excellent condition. The
massive weight and long wheelbase of 150 inches makes for a
wonderful ride quality. This Rolls comes complete with four decades
of restoration, service and maintenance receipts, historical
documents, old registrations and more. For more information and
