Vehicle Description
1968 Harley Davidson Servi-Car Motorcycle
The Servi-Car was designed during the Great Depression when
Harley-Davidson was desperate to expand its product base to
increase sales. Targeted at the automotive service industry, the
vehicle was designed to be towed behind a car to be delivered to a
customer; when the car was delivered at its destination, the driver
would unhitch the Servi-Car and ride back to the garage. For this
reason, it was available with a tow bar at the front and a large 60
Ah battery. In addition to its intended use for car delivery and
retrieval, the Servi-Car was also popular as a utility vehicle for
small businesses and mobile vendors. They proved to be particularly
popular with the police departments, some of which still used
Servi-Cars into the 1990s.
For consignment, a former police vehicle turned 3 wheel daily rider
from 1968 as a HD Servi-Car with a mere 24,254 title verified
actual miles. Great for that extra storage for selling your goods,
or just packing heavily for a road trip, this 3 wheeler is in nice
condition. It has an electric starter and also an alternator for
more reliability.
The Bike
With its clear arched visor sporting a red tinted bottom, a trio of
running front lighting, large Hydra-Glide chromed forks, black
fender and drum braking you will think there is an actual Po Po on
your tail when this beauty pulls up on ya! It has a curvaceous gas
tank painted black with chrome trimmings and just behind is an
oversized leather bicycle style sprung seat. In back is the prize
with a white fiberglass box for storing whatever, and plenty of it
riding on a coil spring setup. It has 2 wheels and a rear axle to
support this box. A 16-inch wire wheel is in front and black
painted steel wheels with moon caps are on back. The tires have
dual thin whitewalls to give it a classic look. A nice bumper
protects the box and 4 round tail lights provide good visibility
for these behind you at night. On the handlebars are all the
controls necessary to propel the bike forward and on each is
perched a rear view round chromed mirror. A truly classic looker,
with some chutzpah.
Drivetrain
As you sit in the bicycle seat, you'll straddle 750cc' of pure
power. This V-Twin engine has the Harley rumble, shows some slight
surface rust on the finned heads and has a 1-barrel carburetor
feeding it. On the back is a 3 speed manual transmission with a
reverse gear and dual exhaust. Drum brakes are on all 3's and all
is very good and running just fine. All gauges are working and it
is a great not oft seen looker.
A trike if you will, former Police vehicle used in the early days
as a delivery vehicle and promotional tool for Harley Davidson.
This example is very nicely preserved, runs great and looks just
fab!
