Vehicle Description
Award-worthy paint, a custom leather interior, a full air ride
suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and a big 455 V8 under the hood
- this 1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 is a stunning one-of-a-kind that's
so unique and powerful that it cannot escape the spotlight.
This is the golden era of post-WWII cars, and this custom Olds
shows it perfectly. You can see some of the lineage to the iconic
shoebox Chevys in details like the fenders and the sexy dip in the
doorline. Plus, GM cars seem to be the best at integrating the
bumper and grille into one beautiful shape. But Oldsmobile was also
free to have a style all its own. Great details like the sexy dip
in the doorline, rocket jet hood ornament, and bullet-shaped tail
lights remain. And the chrome bumper and side trim have the kind of
mirror-like shine that you'll see the ladies use to check their
lipstick. But that is not why you love this one. Instead, you want
this Olds for its total custom sleekness. This was given a full
frame-off restoration that was a five-year project ending in 2017.
You can see the difference with the sheet metal that has been
massaged to show quality standards. Then a classic red and black
color combo was laid down on top. It's a high-quality single-stage
application to give it the right old-school vibe. And the sleek
shine looks so good, you'll be glad they deleted the badging and
door handles just so you better see how the light rolls over this
car so evenly. Add in custom touches like the wide exhaust tips and
large Boss 18-inch wheels, and you've got a great classic that has
been transformed into an outstanding custom.
When you open the door, the red returns on the dash, and the black
is on the door panels, carpeting, and headliner to give the
impression of a thoughtfully planned custom inside and out. We
especially love the black upholstery that has red contrast
stitching and custom 88 headrests. And it's done in supple leather
with terrific bolstering to be more comfortable than anything that
came out of the 1950s. There are plenty of upgraded conveniences
like the remote door popper, a cup holder center console, and an
AM/FM/CD stereo with USB input for your phone. There are also
provisions for A/C and power windows if you choose to service them.
This one was built to be a fun cruiser, and so you have a sports
steering wheel on a polished tit column, and the center console's
auxiliary readouts remind you that this is a Rocket 88. And we like
that they still left the classic dials within all these upgrades
just so you can admire its bright and symmetrical design as you go
for a drive. Plus, you have a wired remote for the air ride control
so that you can dial in your ideal stance everywhere you
arrive.
Just like the rest of this car, the engine bay is made to be on
display. Custom smooth inner walls, extra polished components, and
tidy tuckered wires and hoses make it award-worthy. And we love how
even the motor has a touch of black and red pinstripes to go with
the car's full color theme. This is a big 455 cubic-inch Old big
block. We're told it was rebuilt with big heads and to W30 specs.
There's also an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock
intake, and shorty headers. The full package is estimated at 425
horsepower! But it's not just a pure power machine. This like to be
a true cruiser with a motor that fires up eagerly, idles smoothly,
and features like the Griffin aluminum radiator with electric fan
help keep it running right even in traffic. There's even a tubular
A-arm front end, rear sway bar, power steering, four-wheel power
disc brakes, and a stout but smooth TH400 three-speed automatic
transmission.
This is the unique Holiday Hardtop Olds that has quality investment
