Description:
This 1953 Packard Clipper club sedan is finished in blue over gray
cloth upholstery and is powered by a 288ci straight-eight paired
with a three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes wheel
covers, an AM radio, a driver-side mirror, TPI-Tech Instruments
gauges, a 12-volt electrical system, and a chrome grille, exterior
trim, and bumpers. The car was repainted under prior ownership, and
work performed since then includes adjusting the carburetor,
lubricating the chassis, and replacing the coolant-temperature
sensor.
Interior:
The cabin features bench seats trimmed in striped gray cloth and
blue vinyl along with color-coordinated door panels and gray
carpeting. Additional appointments include a blue-painted dash, a
push-button AM radio, and a lockable glove compartment. An
engine-turned dashboard fascia houses gauges from TPI-Tech
Instruments consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm
tachometer, and a combination gauge. The digital odometer shows
under one mile, and total chassis mileage is unknown. The
speedometer is inoperative.
Exterior:
The car was repainted blue under prior ownership, and Deluxe-style
trim has been added atop the quarter panels. Additional details
include a swan hood ornament, a driver-side mirror, a wrap-around
rear window, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The chrome grille
has an imperfection below the passenger-side headlamp, and
blemishes are also noted on the side trim. The lower-able glass
windows in both doors are cracked, and the windshield is scratched.
Painted 15" steel wheels wear Packard covers and are mounted with
Kumho front and Mastercraft rear whitewall tires. Braking is
provided by drums at all four corners. The brakes were overhauled
under prior ownership and the chassis was lubricated in preparation
for the sale.
Drivetrain:
The 288ci flathead straight-eight features a single downdraft
carburetor and "Thunderbolt" markings. The electrical system has
been converted to a 12-volt setup. The engine was resealed under
prior ownership, and the carburetor was adjusted and the
coolant-temperature sensor was replaced in preparation for the
sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted
three-speed manual transmission, which was resealed under prior
ownership. Corrosion and damage are visible on underbody
components, which can be viewed in the photo gallery.
