Introduced in 1978 the Porsche 928 was anything but Porsche. Front
engine, V8, and automatic transmission were all words that were not
synonymous with the brand. The car was futuristic in design and the
Luxury Sport Grand Touring 928 combined the power, poise, and
handling characteristics of a sports car with the refinement,
comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan leading many executives to
believe it was to replace the 911 as its appeal would hold a wider
audience. The 928 S4 debuted for the 1987 Model year and featured
an updated version of the 5.0 liter V8 as well as some updated
styling cues giving the car a cleaner, sleeker look.
