This 1948 Buick Roadmaster Series 70 Sedanet has had four owners
from new and has accumulated a mere 37,000 miles. She is a lovely
survivor, being restored only as needed. The sleek body lines of
the rare Sedanet are enhanced by her lustrous dark green livery
which is beautifully complimented by her gorgeous original light
gray Bedford cord cloth upholstery. This is a rare and beautiful
Buick that would be equally enjoyed on tours or local car shows.
The Buick Roadmasters were beautifully designed by the legendary
head of design at General Motors, Harley Earl. This Roadmaster was
purchased new on September 20, 1948, by WWI Veteran Carl Hurner for
$3,282 from Vinton & Larsen Sales and Service in McMinnville, OR.
The original sales invoice is included in the sale and mentions its
new Dynaflow transmission, seat covers and 3M undercoating. Mr.
Hurner kept her for 25 years when she was acquired in 1972 by Glen
Stafford. Mr. Stafford had her repainted at Teds Body Shop in Great
Falls, ID in 1985. Mr. Bengy Kuehling acquired her from the
Stafford estate on February 19, 1999, with 36,206 original miles.
The current owner acquired her in 2010 and has driven her
approximately 1,200 miles. She currently has a total of 37,445 from
new. This Roadmasters livery is Buick Verde Green (Paint Code
48-04) and has a deep, lustrous shine. Her 1985 repaint still looks
very nice today with only a couple of small touched up chips that
are only noticeable upon close inspection. Her chrome and
stainless-steel trim are in very good to excellent condition. The
chrome has been re-plated as needed and the grill and other trim
are in excellent condition with no pitting and only very minor
scratches from normal use. The front bumper is enhanced by a
beautifully chromed and rare Van Auklen bumper guard. Her wide
white wall tires and wheel covers make an elegant statement and
show well. The sleek lines of the Sedanet are complemented by the
fender skirts and the abundance of chrome and stainless accents.
Overall, the exterior is in excellent show and tour condition. The
Buicks interior is largely original, and her Grey Heather Bedford
Cord upholstery (Trim 76) is in very nice condition. The gray cloth
upholstery beautifully complements the striking Verde Green livery.
She has lush dark gray carpets which were replaced by the previous
owner and show very well with very little wear. The dash and
instrument panel are a stunning two-tone gray. The instruments are
silver finished, and all gauges are in working order and show very
well. Her interior comes complete with an optional Sonomatic AM
radio, antenna, heater, analog clock and an under-the-dash GM brand
chrome tissue dispenser. Overall, the interior is largely original,
well optioned and shows well throughout. The engine compartment is
very clean and nicely detailed and painted throughout. Her 320 cu
in Fireball OHV Straight Eight produces 144 hp and is equipped with
a 2-barrel carburetor. The power is transferred to the rear wheels
through her 2-speed Dynaflow Automatic Transmission which shifts
well and performs quietly. The valve cover has been repainted and
displays the red Buick Valve-In-Head Fireball Dynaflash Eight
stickers. The engine compartment shows very well throughout. This
gorgeous Roadmaster is accompanied with the original owners guide,
titles from two former owners, the original sales invoice from
1948, the original dealership sales letter, the exterior repaint
receipt from 1985, a lubrication receipt for 1956, an original
Buick Roadmaster magazine ad and the original Buick polishing
cloth. This 1948 Buick runs and drives beautifully. With her
well-maintained history, stunning design, and low mileage, she
would be an excellent addition to consider. For more information
