The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car was a limited
edition model that was all about distinction. So as you look
through the full package on this one, you're going to see some
stand-out features that make this a great driver's classic for more
than just its affordable price.
The official Pace Car replicas were quite special this year. After
all, this was the Corvette's 25th anniversary, making it a limited
edition of an already significant car. So they gave it a distinct
two-tone with a bold red pinstripe encircling the car and showing
off the sporty flared fenders. The cowl hood, full factory-style
body kit, and full rear spoiler also give this C3 a terrific sporty
style. The value price and the overall fit/finish tell you that
this is the kind of car for those who want to really drive a legend
and/or have a project for future fun. The aftermarket is quite deep
if you would like to restore or upgrade any of the features. But we
already see an attraction in how this is ready to hit any road on a
whim and show off the shiny YJ8 alloys with special reline outlines
that match the pinstripe.
The interior has a nice driver-ready style. You have desirable
features like a tilt steering column and body-hugging bucket seats
in a newer vinyl. Power windows, power locks, and glass T-tops are
all part of this cruiser-ready appeal. It's certainly not a perfect
setup, and you'll likely find areas to repair, but overall this has
a level of distinction you don't find on many others. Classic
Corvettes are all about the details, and this one has quite an
interesting option. Chevrolet offered on its premium Corvette an
AM/FM stereo with an integrated CB radio. It was the most expensive
option in 1978 except for the Pace Car edition. So more people
chose air conditioning or the L82 motor because they were cheaper!
So it appears this car was loaded with all those features and more
from the factory. The value price reflects the state today with
replacements and pieces that need servicing (like the air
conditioning) but we bet you see the same kind of appeal we do
where it's fun to have a car that was distinct from day one.
One of the reasons why we are so adamant about this being the right
car for those who drive is because of what we see under the hood.
This is a replacement 350 cubic-inch V8, and it has a clear and
respected presentation under the hood. So you have a strong-running
power package. And when you get this one out on the road, the way
it feels tight and secure reminds you why the fully independent
suspension of the C3 makes for a terrific classic sports car. And
the four-wheel power disc brakes, power steering, and
smooth-shifting three-speed automatic transmission are all there
for a nice all-around driver.
What we like about this car is the potential it gives you. It's one
of the most value-priced Pace Car editions around. So it's a nice
way to get your hands on quite a solid driving example of a
collectible that might have otherwise been out of reach. Or maybe
you see the price as a way to budget for your ultimate power
car/restomod C3 Corvette. And since there are plenty of people who
can see ways to enjoy this collectible Corvette you know it's time
to grab this deal. Call today!!!
