AMERICAN CLASSICFRESHLY DETAILED & READY TO ENJOY Buick
traditionally occupied an enviable position within the GM hierarchy
by selling prestigious, well equipped, and profitable mid-to-upper
level cars. By 1954, record calendar-year production and strong
model-year production drove Buick to third place in American sales
rankings right behind GM's high-volume Chevrolet and Ford. For the
calendar year 1955, Buick production reached an all-time high of
nearly 800,000 vehicles, including the one-millionth Buick V-8
engine. In NASCAR competition, Buick entries scored a pair of
high-profile victories.Throughout its long and rich history, Buick
has been synonymous with prestige, style, advanced engineering, and
strong value. In particular, the Series 70 Roadmaster topped the
Buick model line continuously between 1936 and 1958, clearly
signifying its owners upward mobility to the rest of the world with
its outstanding engineering, performance, and styling.Externally
similar to the redesigned 1954 Buick models, the 1955 models
retained the X-braced chassis frame and smooth torque-tube drive.
Riding the top 127-inch wheelbase chassis, the Series 70 Roadmaster
line was a focused three-model series including a four-door Sedan,
Convertible Coupe, and two-door Hardtop Coupe body styles. Buick's
outstanding Nailhead V-8 engine, first available for 1953,
continued in its original 322 cubic-inch displacement for 1955.
Topped by a Carter four-barrel carburetor and offering higher 9.1:1
compression, the Nailhead V-8 engine now carried a 236-horsepower
factory rating. Befitting Buicks top model series, the Roadmaster's
standard Dynaflow automatic transmission was upgraded for 1955 with
20 variable-pitch stator blades that either opened fully for quick
acceleration or returned to normal position for cruising ease. In
addition to improved acceleration and performance, the transmission
updates also delivered improved fuel economy for the big Buick.
While nearly 60,000 Roadmasters were produced in all for 1955, just
4,730 glamorous Model 76C Roadmaster Convertible Coupes were
produced, including this stunning restoration, which garnered the
Buick Club of America Senior Award in 2001. Colors are outstanding,
including the Condor Yellow and Black 2-tone paint finish over a
matching leather interior. In addition to the standard leather
interior of the Model 76C Roadmaster Convertible Coupe, the body
style also included standard power window lifts. Other choice
features include an in-dash clock and radio, aircraft-style
heating/ventilation control levers, and a handsomely engine-turned
wraparound dash insert. As offered, this stately, top-of-the-line
Roadmaster clearly benefits from proper care and preservation,
including climate-controlled storage, under the watchful eye of the
prior owner, a longstanding and well-respected private automobile
collector. Accompanying items include a spare tire, roadside jack,
lug wrench, fire extinguisher, and top-boot cover. Call us today to
