The 1932 Ford has been admired by both enthusiasts and engineers
ever since its introduction three-quarters of a century ago. Also
called the Deuce because of the "2" in the model year, it was the
world's first popularly priced car to offer a V8 engine. A '32 Ford
featured a lot of firsts and also lasts, which helped endear it to
hot rodders. It was the first year of the flathead V-8, which was
the first V-8 in an affordable, mass market automobile. 1932 Fords
survived much better, leading to greater availability, which kept a
lid on prices.
For consignment, a deuce rodded 32 Ford pickup truck. Not your
everyday pickup but a rolling work of automotive art. A pickup like
none other you'll see, that has had a ton of time put into the
rebuild to a rodded truck, with all details paid attention to. A
veritable who's who of parts manufacturers and now a unique piece
that no one else will even come close to imitating!! I'll call it
little boy blue, but it will leave you green with envy!
Exterior
Time to bone up on some of your rodding terms so stay with me while
I give you the pitch on this deuce resto-rod pickup. A dual chromed
bar front bumper has been shaved off and now small square signal
lights lead the way and highlights the beautifully curvaceous front
fiberglass fenders that flank the long vertical vented cowled hood.
A body matching radiator surround bathed in metallic blue is
fronted by a vertical stainless ribbed grille, and flanked by a
chromed support bar that stretches across the grille and supports a
single chromed headlight on either side. These fenders C curve up
and around the front tires and wheels and mate with fiberglass
running boards to aid you into getting inside with ease. Just above
are the front hinged doors keeping within their original squared
off design and have chromed round mirrors hanging off their tops. A
rolled top steel bed, straighter than arrows, form the sides to the
bed which is now lined on the inside with lightly stained and
heavily varnish stained oak boards with chromed separators. Large
chromed tractor trailer smoke stacks poke through the oak bed and
rise to the sky on either side of the cab. In the center on the bed
is a vintage Coca Cola cooler which houses the battery..nifty! On
back, just below the white painted Ford badge gate, are
horizontally frenched LED tail lights within a straight roll pan on
back. For the front corners, 14-inch American Racing Torque Thrust
shiny wheels are wrapped in 195/70R14's and in back larger 15-inch
Torque Thrusts are wrapped by 225/70R15's rubber.
Interior
As we swing the doors to explore the interior we are greeted with
perfect blue upper vinyl covers with styled actuators and cranks in
polished chrome. Just below is a gray tuck and roll vertical vinyl
panel, and another thin strip of the light blue before turning to
dark gray carpeting for the lowers. Inside a like new bench is
installed with shiny smooth dark blue bolster and slightly darker
gray tuck and roll inserts. A large aluminum box supports the tilt
steering column, and a snappy blue steering wheel ion on the end of
the tilt column. The dash has been kept simple but effective in the
blue metal and a stainless brushed central panel with instruments.
All are AutoMeter vintage styled letters in white face form. Dark
gray plush carpet floods the floors and seen in this field are
custom chromed foot pedals, (I told you they left no stone
unturned!). Also above is a vinyl shiny gray headliner.
Drivetrain
Within the engine bay is 350 ci V8 circa 1977. It has Summit racing
cast iron heads, a new camshaft and lifters and an Edelbrock intake
manifold with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. A TH350 3-speed
automatic tranny is bolted on back and this goes with a Ford 9 inch
rear axle to spin the rear biggies. Shorty headers and of course
the dual stacks through the bed for the big exhale sans
mufflers.
Undercarriage
Here we see a 1932 rolling chassis by Legend Motors-Downs Design
and it is just beautifully appointed. The braking has new lines
with A.N. fittings which clamp down on front wheel power disc
brakes showing polished calipers. Chorme Mustang 2 front suspension
is on and rear leaf springs are rust free with power drums on the
back.
Drive-Ability
A driver for sure, literally a rolling work of art, and a head
turner that they can hear you coming from a mile away! And they
will assume a big rig is coming down the pike! Excellent handling,
braking, acceleration and all functionality was working perfectly.
I did not want to get out, it was that good.
Just a great overall presentation that was in the care of the
consignors father, then his son, our consignor since 2009. Electric
blue, plenty of chrome, new interior and some snappy mechanical
upgrades and we are rollin' in style.
