Vehicle Description
This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette is a gorgeous sports car configured
with desirable performance-oriented options. When the Corvette
debuted in 1953, it received a somewhat tepid response from the
public. While folks seemed to appreciate the unique styling of the
2-seater sports car, the biggest complaint seemed to arise from its
lack of performance. Well, Chevrolet corrected its early misdeeds
in subsequent iterations of the Corvette by introducing a V8 and
other performance options such as a manual transmission. By the
early 60s, the Corvette had some serious traction among the buying
public and had established itself as an American icon. The 1961
version of the 'Vette underwent some styling revisions. The GM
marque even touted these changes in it's marketing materials by
exclaiming that "America's Sports Car Gets a New Look!" In 1961,
the "heavy tooth" grille was replaced with a more refined grille
comprised of both horizontal and vertical lines. New body-color
trim surrounded the pair of headlights in each quarter panel,
replacing the chrome trim from previous years. The rear end was
also reconfigured to the new "duck tail" style along with the
iconic round taillight configuration that would be carried forward
in every Corvette since the 1961 models. This particular 1961
'Vette comes to us out of an east coast collection where it spent
nearly 20 years and before that spent time in the south. Under the
hood on this Corvette is a Numbers Matching 283 Cubic Inch V8
engine paired with dual 4 barrel carburetors that together were
said to have created 270 horsepower from the factory. The 283 V8 is
backed by a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this classic
Corvette an absolute blast to drive. Exhaust exits the dual quad
283 V8 via a dual exhaust setup that gives this convertible a nice
throaty sound. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a positraction
rear end so that you'll be able to keep the rubber to the pavement
when driving this classic muscle car. The white vinyl convertible
top is in nice condition and is operated manually. Riding on a set
of wide whitewall radial tires each paired with a full
Spinner-style wheelcover, this '61 Corvette has a great look and
even better ride. The exterior has been refinished in beautiful
Roman Red that is accented by Ermine White coves on each side,
completing the exterior look of this car. The interior on this 1961
Corvette is absolutely stunning! The bucket seats have been
reupholstered in red vinyl that matches the exterior of the car.
The red padded dash, red and silver upholstered door panels, brand
new red carpeting, and red painted steering wheel are all in
fantastic shape and appear to be in their stock configuration. The
dash is equipped with a 160 MPH speedometer, 7,000 RPM tachometer,
battery gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge and fuel
gauge, along with a clock and controls for the heater/defroster.
Whether you're purchasing your first classic car or you're adding
to your existing collection, this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette would
