Vehicle Description
The 1965 K-Code Mustang convertible is very rare car that stands
out among classic Mustangs. It was the only Mustang to feature the
legendary, powerful, and rare high performance 'K-Code' engine,
making it one of the most sought after cars in the Mustang lineup.
At the time of its release, the K-Code Mustang was well ahead of
its competition in terms of power train technology. Its Hi-Po 289
V8 engine boasted 271 horsepower, which was substantially more than
other Mustang models available at that time. The motor featured an
upgraded camshaft, pistons, cylinder heads, carburetor, lifter
heads, and connecting rods, giving the K-code a competitive edge
over other vehicles on the road and racetrack alike. In fact,
Carrol Shelby himself chose a modified version of this motor to put
in his racing performance GT350 and GT350R Mustangs. The K-Code
option also included Ford's Special Handling Package that included
upgraded springs, shocks, and front stabilizer Only 7,273 Mustangs
in all were equipped with the K-Code package for 1965, however this
beautiful example is far rarer as one of only 181 Mustang K-Code
convertibles produced for 1965.
This Mustang was originally purchased from Abbate Motor Sales, Inc.
in Fox Lake Illinois brand-new in 1964, and remained in his
possession until 2016. The current owner purchased this car from
its original owner with plans for an extensive restoration. From
2016 to 2020, the car underwent well-photographed no-expense spared
rotisserie restoration, retaining its original numbers-matching
motor and original factory colors. Only about 1,000 miles were
driven since the restoration's completion, and it has always been
stored in a climate-controlled building ever since. This is a
well-documented car, and includes the original owners manual, car
invoice, bill of sale, options sheet, receipts for work done, 4
albums of restoration photos, and more.
This Mustang is in excellent condition all-around, including the
super-clean undercarriage, and is guaranteed to turn heads wherever
it goes. The motor starts right up and runs perfect, and the
factory 4-speed transmission shifts flawlessly. Inside, you'll
notice the factory "Rally Pac" tachometer and clock mounted above
the steering column, which is also original to the car, along with
the factory radio. 3 sets of keys + 2 extra trunk keys and 5 unused
US Royal dual red stripe 6.95 x 14 4-ply tires will also accompany
the sale of the car.
The Ford Mustang is a timeless classic beloved by many today, and
this K-Code convertible is no exception. It's no wonder why these
beauties are highly sought after amongst collectors who appreciate
their special qualities and rarity.
