The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American cars,
distinguished as affordable sporty coupes with long hoods and short
rear decks, and gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet
Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, Chrysler's revamped Plymouth
Barracuda, and the second-generation Dodge Challenger. The Mustang
is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupes such as the
Toyota Celica and Ford Capri, which were imported to the United
States. As of August 2018, over 10 million Mustangs have been
produced in the U.S.
For consignment, a GT version of the Mustang. This car has a
screaming paint job, black tape stripes, comes with the Shaker
stereo, has been garage kept during the 8 years our consignor owned
it and has only logged a mere 32,536 actual miles. This is an S197
chassis GT, and in very nice condition with just a few performance
add-ons to give it the right look, sound, and stance.
Exterior
Screaming Yellow with black tape stripes come together to create
the menacing look for this muscle car. We note that the driver's
fender has been repainted but otherwise things are just the way
they left the Flat Rock facility. Ford went all out for the design,
reminiscent of the early models it just looks beefier, and more
refined on the line aspect. The front of the car is more "aero"
designed, and has an integrated body matching bumper, blackened
grille with fog lights, a lower chin spoiler, and the ubiquitous
galloping pony. All these styling cues can be seen from way back in
1965 with its grille shape, and rear tail light configuration. A
long smooth hood fronts backed out trim around beautiful glass.
Blackened and matte sprayed side view mirrors, some minimalistic
but clean badging, and 18" polished Bullitt wheels from American
Muscle are wrapped with like new Yokohama rubber completes the
look.
Interior
Dark Charcoal leather and vinyl come together to make up the
upholstery for the front buckets and rear 2 plus 2 seats which are
like new. The driver's bucket is powered, as are the windows and
locks. A very simple dash houses another throwback cue, more from
1967/1968 than 1965, in the form of the dual circular embedded
instruments behind the steering wheel, although the 65 version
utilized a horizontal speedometer. An AM/FM/CD Shaker 1000 stereo
system, A/C, traction control fill the center swooped down section
of the dash. A white ball shift knob tops the chrome handle and
leather booted shifter which sits in a center console that makes
its way past the buckets to the rear 2+2's. Nice black carpet has
black factory floor mats which protect the carpet and a clean black
felt headliner hangs above
Drivetrain
A 4.6 Liter, 3 valve, V8 with EFI, attached to a TR3650 5-speed
manual transmission puts power rearward to an 8.8" 3.55 geared
TracLoc rear axle. All clean and green, (yellow actually), in this
unmolested engine bay.
Undercarriage
Typifying a 32,536 mile car, with only surface rust on the
untreated components, and looking just like it did coming down the
assembly line at Flat Rock. An independent coil spring front
suspension and 3-link rear suspension with coil springs have the
added benefit of a factory panhard bar. As an add on to help this
pony gallop is a cat back dual exhaust system courtesy of
Flowmaster. Power disc brakes are noted all around as is power
steering.
Drive-Ability
Our muscle car crack decoder took this baby out to the track and he
had an absolute ball. I did not think he was going to return, but
alas he did and reported with a grin it performed great and is all
buttoned up on the drive-ability front. Sometimes it's nice to get
behind the wheel of an almost stock car, especially one with such
low miles. All was working as it should and the interior still has
that new car smell.
A well presenting and powerful running GT in yellow with black
decal stripes, a nice homage to the first Shelby GT-350's of yore.
A low mileage, pampered, garage kept car, presented for your
enjoyment here at Classic Auto Mall.
