2002 Lincoln Blackwood 4x2 Pickup
In 2002 the luxury SUVs were especially hot, led by the models like
the Cadillac Escalade and LincolnNavigator. Over at Ford, the
success of the Navigator, (which was basically a fancy version of
the Ford Expedition),led the company to experiment with a
Lincoln-badged luxury pickup truck-and the result was the 2002
Lincoln Blackwood. The idea behind the Blackwood was to combine the
capability of a pickup truck with the luxury amenities and comfort
of a Lincoln sedan, and the term "ultimate utility vehicle" was
used to hype it up.
For consignment, luxury meets utility in the form of a 2002 Lincoln
Blackwood 4x2 pickup truck. This snazzy 4x2 is all dressed up and
ready to go to work or an expensive dinner at the club after work.
It is bathed in black, has a crew cab, and all the amenities of a
proper luxury vehicle which would be expected from the Lincoln
branding. Since its purchase in 2019 from Texas, our consignor has
added a killer infotainment unit featuring a navigation, front and
rear cameras, and a Carplay Sony stereo and Clarion speakers to add
to the already well appointed interior. Topping it all off is a
Deluxe Marti Report to show the numbers breakdown.
Exterior
Like a black tuxedo made by the work clothing manufacturer Carhart,
this luxury workhorse has a Lincoln Aviator front end and grille.
It moves rearward in this styling and shows up with the cab in 4
doors with tinted glass and chromed rear view exterior mirrors. The
Aviator ends here and the truck begins with the hard capped bed
featuring sides and split in the middle gate which is adorned with
horizontal white lines. The hard cap has a wide rib in the center
which ends with a snazzy badge in the center of this bed top. Below
is a wide black neoprene bumper complete with a tow hitch. With
hard topper up, and tail gate doors swung open we see a carpet
lined bed in black. It has a cargo net and some pop up folding
storage bins made from ripstop nylon inside. The interior of the
bed is lined with stainless steel ribbed panels. There is a 12V
power outlet on the passengers side in the back. Like new 265/60R18
rubber is like new and on all 4 corners. 18-inch polished wheels
add some nice contrast to the black exterior.
Interior
A swing of the 4 doors reveals a full on black leather covered
interior seat area. These front buckets are all overstuffed, power
controlled, and show with some minor cracking on the bolsters on
the edgers of entry. A very large central console offers up a big
glovebox, some cupholders and a navigation screen built into the
console just prior to the dash. Just above in a rounded over styled
dash panel is the consignor installed new head unit. This features
AM/FM/XM and Bluetooth as well as front and rear cameras. It is a
Sony unit. The factory dash is in and it features sweep
instrumentation in black face with white lettering. For the rear
passengers, we see two more overstuffed black leather buckets and
another large center console for these passengers. Their own
climate controls are within the front console on its rear panel
facing the rear buckets. All doors feature power windows and locks
with the driver's door having the mirror controls. Above is a power
sunroof, and more toggles in a "roof console" if you will, to pop
the rear topper, move the sunroof and give you an LED readout of
time and temp.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a complex multitude of wiring and hoses and
plastic coverings resides the powerful 5.4L DOHC V8 it puts out
300hp. It is fed by EFI and has a 4R100 4-speed automatic
transmission on back. A 3.73 limited slip rear axle is within this
configuration.
Undercarriage
Very clean with very light surface rust on the usual suspects,
otherwise nicely coated metal surfaces. The truck uses independent
coil springs for the front suspension, and leaf springs with
airbags for the rear. Power disc braking is on all 4 corners. New
Bilstein shocks have recently been installed.
Drive-Ability
Slipping into this luxury truck I felt like a contractor going to
the prom. I was surrounded by leather and many conveniences, as
well as plenty of power which showed itself when I pressed the
accelerator. It performed beautifully with all functions working
just swimmingly.
A worker and a pamperer, this rare truck from one year, (2002), is
gracing our Hallowed Hallways and is ready to go out for a date.
