This US market 911S completed production on November 14th, 1968,
and was delivered to its first owner in Kent, Washington on
November 25th, 1968. After just over two years of ownership, the
car was sold to its second owner on December 10th, 1970 where it
remained within the family with several members for the next 44
years. The car remained with the second owner until April 23rd of
1979 when it was sold to the second owner's cousin. The second
owner's cousin then kept the car for the next nine years before
selling the car to the second owner's son on September 28th, 1988.
The car remained with the second owner's son for the next 26 years.
In 2014, the car was sent to Kundensport in Oxnard, California to
be restored but sold shortly thereafter to CarparcUSA where the
restoration was completed.
This example was put through a detailed restoration by Carparc,
where an emphasis on retaining as many original parts as possible
was applied. The car arrived at Carparc having already completed
its body restoration and paint. Carparc began assembly and
performed the following work:
The original wiring harness was disassembled and repaired as
necessary. All instruments were sent to Palo Alto Speedometer for
their respective overhauls. The car received a new starter, voltage
regulator, alternator, and a set of NOS Hella 169 fog lights were
sourced and installed.
The sunroof mechanism was overhauled by Carparc in-house, and the
interior was completed by Autos International of Escondido,
California. The vast majority of interior components were in
outstanding original condition and were retained including the
window cranks, dash knobs, door handles (inside and out), shift
knob, and boot and front door pockets. The original dash was
recovered, and Autos International installed a carpet and
insulation kit, headliner, the refurbished dash, and rebuilt and
recovered front seats and knee bolsters.
Carparc performed the transmission overhaul in-house which included
all new bearings, all new synchro rings including dog teeth, pilot
bearing, throwout bearing, and new bushings. A new flywheel and
clutch kit was installed on the engine.
The matching numbers engine was overhauled in-house at Carparc as
well. The oil-bypass modification was performed, case savers were
installed, and new NOS Mahle weighed and balanced pistons were
sourced with new Mahle cylinders. New rods were installed, the
crankshaft was micro-polished, and the engine case alignment was
checked to be in factory spec. The engine received new timing
chains, chain guides, chain gears, and updated 930 chain
tensioners. The engine heads were fully re-machined and overhauled
by Degroff Cylinder Head Service in Northridge, California. Mark
Jung of MFI Werks rebuilt and calibrated the mechanical fuel
injection system.
The car's suspension and brakes were completely overhauled,
including new surface finishes, bushings, bearings, and Koni
dampers. The car was then aligned and corner balanced. The
date-stamped original Fuchs wheels were refinished and reinstalled
on the car.
This 1969 Porsche 911S is an example that has been highly cared for
throughout its life and was treated to a wonderful restoration
about seven years ago. The car has traveled just 6,000 miles since
its completion and has spent the last couple of years with an
enthusiast owner in Carlsbad, California.
Documentation on this 911S begins in 1973 and is fairly complete
through the present day, including all receipts from the
restoration work performed.
If you are in the market for a highly documented 911S sporting a
lovely restoration that has a verifiable history since it was
essentially new, this Tangerine dream is the Porsche 911 for
you.
