For Sale: 1961 Ford Galaxie in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Want to celebrate summer in a razor-sharp custom that's prime time prepped and old school cool? You can always buy a nice Chevy - Like everyone else... You COULD find a cool old Dodge and raise a few eyebrows... Or, you can call RK Motors Charlotte and snatch up this striking Ford Galaxie! Polished, planted and ready to cruise, this captivating classic wraps 390 cubic inches of tri-power might in posh aesthetics, proven mechanicals and a thoughtfully bagged and upgraded suspension. And if you're looking for a fun cruiser that mixes exceptional style with excellent performance, it's the good time you've been patiently waiting for!

SIRIUS STARLINER

The product of a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration that mixes massive show with massive go, this sweet Starliner resto-mod is a tastefully custom take on classic Americana. Epic reflections manifest through super straight metal that wears a super deep coat of timeless Black two-stage. And today, this remarkable Ford prowls the pavement as pretty much the ultimate expression of sophisticated street rod style!

Beginning in 1960, the Galaxie traded ostentatious '50s bling for the Space Age traits that would eventually define one of the best decades of automotive design. And this coupe, playing on the decidedly minimalist appeal of the street rodding movement, pushes that aesthetic even further. At the front of the car, a familiar Ford grille hangs traditional halogen headlights between petite parking lamps, a heavy brow and a broad bumper that, for the 1961 model year, included tasteful bullets. Above that grille, a customized hood centers a 1963 Ford Falcon scoop in front of a restoration-fresh greenhouse that's traced in stylish stainless. That glass, cleared by polished wipers and reflected in first-gen Mustang Racing Mirrors, caps a sculpted profile that's decorated with flowing "Starliner" scripts, legendary 390 Eagles and textured rocker trim. Blade-like door handles lead stainless-capped fins that terminate just shy of afterburner taillights. And those lamps frame a gridded valance that's sandwiched between a second bulleted bumper and a third sinuous "Starliner" script.

TRI-POWER CORE

Befitting the Galaxie's origins as Dearborn's first full-size muscle machine, this flashy cruiser draws motivation from a hotted up Ford FE V8. Beginning life as a reliable 390, that mill has currently rolled less than 300 miles since being bored, stroked and fully rebuilt. At the top of the .030-over block, trick spinners secure a finned and polished air cleaner, which wraps a low-profile filter element around a trio of Holley carburetors. Those carbs, juiced by a coated Edelbrock pump, ride an aluminum intake, which feeds quality Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. The fires get lit by proven MSD 6AL ignition, which jolts an MSD coil, a Mallory distributor and loomed Taylor plug wires. Finned and polished valve covers split polished breathers and requisite shorty headers. Cooling is provided by an aluminum water pump, which cycles fluid through a beefy aluminum radiator. And, aesthetically, the car's clean, Satin Black engine bay is nice enough to park at any show.

RISING AND SETTING

Not surprisingly, the bottom of this fine Ford continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. Solid floors create a textured backdrop for a sturdy factory chassis that was acid dipped and fully powder coated during the car's detailed restoration. That chassis gets pushed by a retrofitted 4-link rear-clip that's finished with independently adjustable RideTech air bags. Opposite that clip, a factory front-half cages two more independently adjustable RideTech bags behind a thick sway bar. The big engine leads a dressed C6 3-speed that, completely rebuilt by the pros at TCI Automotive, stacks a 2500 RPM stall converter in front of a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. That unit twists torque to a narrowed 9-inch axle that's finished with big, 4.10 gears. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Speed gets scrubbed by reliable Hydratech hydroboost, which clamps red Classic Performance Products calipers around a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Ample fuel is supplied by a 16-gallon tank. Large-diameter exhaust feeds rowdy Flowmaster mufflers. And all that hardware rolls on a sweet set of polished Billet Specialties blades, which spin 225/45ZR18 Toyo Proxes in front of 275/35ZR20 Toyo Proxes.

FEEL LIKE A STAR

Cribbed from the Galaxie's 1964 500 line, this classic's thoughtfully customized cockpit manifests as a sea of brilliant vinyl that really puts the X and L into the marque's 'Xtra Lively' ad copy. Those choice digs revolve around silver-piped XL seats that make excellent use of thick lap belts. Those thrones ride clean red carpet, which centers a massaged XL console on AutoMeter Ultra-Lite II accessory gauges and a serious Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter. A streamlined Starliner dash stretches factory telemetry toward modern, direct-fit audio. A color-keyed headliner compliments XL side panels and an XL package tray. And the driver spins a handsome Budnik Stratos wheel around a polished column, an integrated shift light and upgraded foot pedals.

This awesome Starliner is one of the coolest cruisers in the Galaxy! Not only is this Ford a fully sorted classic that's being offered far below its build cost, it's also a unique hot rod that's far removed from typical factory metal. Well-done early '60s Fords don't come along too often, and given the attention this hardtop is drawing, it certainly won't last long!
