For Sale: 1977 Cadillac Eldorado in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1977 Cadillac Eldorado 2 Door Hardtop

The Cadillac Eldorado has always been a trend setter. The personal luxury car market segment that Cadillac created with the Eldorado was growing. The front-wheel drive version was going through its very first redesign with the 1971-1972 models. It was a completely new Fleetwood Eldorado not only in design but also in spirit. The Fleetwood Eldorado was available as a coupe and a luxury convertible replacing the DeVille convertible series. The "Standard of the World" was still the luxury leader. The Fleetwood Eldorado was still unmistakably Cadillac. The last Eldorado Convertible rolled off the line on April 22nd 1976, the end of the drop top era for a few bleak years.

For consignment, a sizable, luxurious, convenience smattered, long smooth cruiser piece of massive Detroit iron in this 1977 Eldorado Model. Nicknamed EL Diablo thanks to its devil theme, this luxury cruiser is riding on 17-inch Dayton 100 spoke wire wheels and Vogue tires. It sports snappy two tone paint and has adjustable rear air shocks for that low and slow ride.

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

Exterior
Gas crisis? We don't need no stinking gas crisis, we will build it even bigger, and allow it to drive on regular gas!!! And this straight steel slabbed sided car, which pays very close attention to its gaps and pampers its chrome trimmings, is definitely going to be the belle of the ball. A V shaped massive grille with matching hood atop, dual headlights on either side and cathedral turn signal and cornering lights at the front and rear edges, you are driving around in a 3 bedroom apartment on wheels. Trimming for the wheel well surrounds, rockers, as well as a thin red delineating stripe between the car's charcoal gray metallic uppers, and silver metallic sides and its bleeding class. Just a few small dents and oopsies and a slight area of rust bubbling and we are off to the race. The badging all looks great, as does chrome which remains in like new condition throughout. Wrapping the 17-inch Dayton wires are 225/50R17' Vogue tires from the 40th week of 2017. A true land yacht.

Interior
A swing of the door and it's a lot like opening a well-balanced safe door! Heavy, but easy to do. On the doors are power controls, chromed panels, burgundy, ( like the wine!), stitched leather, some wood applique, molded burgundy plastic, and burgundy carpeted lowers for the doors. Inside dual ultra-wide burgundy leather buckets, showing some slight creases, sport plenty of power adjustments, and are large enough to accommodate a 3rd front row passenger if the armrests are put up. In the back, a wide bench matching the front in design setup stretches from side to side. The standard square and rectangle dash courtesy GM is in front and has the trappings of a high optioned car in the form of auto dimming headlights, cruise control, climate control, AM/FM stereo with a built in CB radio, A/C, power steering, power brakes, power antenna and rear defogger and all very clean. A 50's style red rimmed steering wheel is fronting this original dash and this matches with the red deep pile carpeting flooding the floors.

Drivetrain
A 425ci V8 engine fits nicely into the large fully restored and very clean engine bay. There is a 4-barrel carburetor feeding the massive engine its mixture of fossils and air and a THM425 3-speed automatic transmission is on back. 2.73 are the gears for the final drive ratio. Supple hoses, a red air cleaner covering as well as red valve coverings gives the namesake "El Diablo".

Undercarriage
Unrestored but solid is the presentation for the undercarriage. The frame is sound and sturdy as are the floor pans, which are completely covered with rust proofing paint and showing nicely. Independent torsion bars for the front suspension, and a 4 link with coil springs are on back. Adjustable air shocks are installed. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners to bring this car to a halt with ease. Dual stainless exhaust works with Pypes mufflers to send spent gasses out the back of the car. There is no catalytic converter to this setup.

Drive-Ability
She started with a turn of the key and ran beautifully. A smooooooth cruise, good tight steering and straight braking. With the 425 cubes it does not take too much time to get to cruising speed, and the transmission shifts smoothly on the way there. The horn wouldn't toot, the power antenna does not work and the AC blows warm. Our consignor states it needs a recharge of R12.

A large and in charge example of the just past mid 1970's idea of luxury. Damn the torpedoes when it comes to any gas crisis, because we will take a 425ci engine, and bolt massive steel panels around it, and pepper it with luxury and conveniences, and you can be on your way...to the top... only in Cadillac style. Don't look at me ma, El Diablo made me do it!
