Alfa Romeo's Berlina was the range topping "Executive Saloon", sharing the mechanical underpinnings of the 105 series GTV Coupes and shorter wheelbase Giulia Sedans. By European standards of the day, this was a superbly well equipped luxury car with a back seat more generous than most, but without compromise to the sporting nature for which Alfa is renowned.
This '74 example was professionally restored using new metal where necessary, deleting the front and rear bumper assemblies to give it a more sporting stance. A host of performance upgrades include Alfaholics' Road Fast suspension kit riding on 15" Rota light weight wheels clad with fresh Firestone Firehawk radials that combine to inspire confidence in the twisties. And a completely overhauled brake system stands by when its time to haul it down.
The 2.0 liter double overhead cam engine was fully rebuilt from the crank up using Alfaholics upgrades. The mechanical fuel injection was scrapped for a pair of Weber 40 carbs breathing through a set of Alfaholics headers and exhaust system. The transmission was likewise rebuilt and an Alfaholics clutch kit installed. Electronic ignition is utilized and an aluminum radiator fitted.
The interior is very tidy with reupholstered seating surfaces, a leather trimmed dash and new headliner. Everything except the clock, which is frozen in time, is in good working order. A rollbar was installed allowing for the use of a four point harness on both driver and passenger front seats. This car has never been tracked or raced, but certainly could be, just as it sits.
This Alfa is perfectly sorted and easy to drive. Starts up easy and idles smoothly. It has excellent road manners and the torquey engine has plenty of low end grunt yet still revs freely to redline. The sound of the engine is music to the ears of any hot blooded car enthusiast, Italian or otherwise.
