For several decades, the term “Hemi” has been associated with high-performance vehicles produced by Chrysler Corporation. Introduced in the 1950’s, the powerplant came into its’ own in the 1960’s powering champions in NASCAR and NHRA competition as well as being under the hood of legendary muscle cars being the Dodge and Plymouth logos. Properly restored Hemi cars from that era are highly sought after by car collectors today, some fetching seven-figure prices at auction.
After a few decades in mothballs, the company introduced a new generation of Hemi engines shortly after the turn of the century. These engines found their way into vehicles bearing the nameplates Charger and Challenger, resurrected from the muscle car and pony car era, as well as their pickup line. Displacement over the years increased from 5.7 liters to 6.1 liters, finally topping out at 6.2 liters.
Chrysler’s long-standing name association with Hemi engines took on yet another dimension in 2021 when the company made the decision to offer the public an all-wheel drive pickup powered by a 6.2L, supercharged powerplant rated at 707 horsepower from their lineup of performance cars. The TRX immediately set the industry standard for sport trucks, with buyers paying a premium for these limited-production beasts.
It’s said that all good things must come to an end, and for the TRX that end comes with the 2023 model year. That announcement has done nothing to cool the demand from people who want to own one of these rare vehicles.
