For Sale: 1985 Mazda RX-7 in Haymarket, Virginia

Vehicle Description

I am the 2nd owner of this great car, having purchased it from my neighbor and original owner back in June 1998. I bought it all original equipment but have made many upgrade modifications to improve handling, acceleration, reliability, esthetics, and to fix 1985 Mazda technology limitations. The car comes with both the removable steel and glass sunroofs. The car has 100578 original miles and the internal make up of the engine has not been modified. I also have kept most all the original parts.

Here is a list of the key improvements I've made to the car:

1. Engine (unmodified with 100227 original miles)
a. Racing Beat three point strut tower brace

c. Racing Beat modified high performance Holly intake system kit for unmodified 12A engines
d. Racking Beat dual race float bowl kit with dual float bowl fuel line
e. Magic Xtreme Flex-a-lite electric radiator cooling fan with adjustable cooling temp fan start and stop control
h. New OEM starter
2. Transmission & Drive Line

c. New drive shaft
d. Racing Beat competition transmission mount
e. Exedy clutch kit - Stage 1
f. New clutch fork pivot and fork
g. New clutch pilot seal and bearing

6. Exhaust System -- New Racing Beat exhaust header, presilencer, and power pulse
8. Fuel Delivery System

b. New Mallory Electric Fuel Pump

c. New competition grade fuel line and fittings

d. Gas tank flushed and any rust removed; then inside coated to prevent any future rust

14. Other improvements that can be discussed with a serious buyer

This is a customized car with many improvements over the OEM version, but I would not recommend it to someone who is unfamiliar with car maintenance and cant do a lot of your own work. Finding qualified mechanics to work on any 1st gen RX-7 is not only very difficult but quite expensive once you find one. BTW, although I added a number of high performance improvements to the car, I never raced or drove the car hard. My philosophy was to put the best parts I could find into the car so that at each upgrade evolution the car was getting mor reliable and fun to drive. I have really enjoyed my time driving and working on this rare car but at 73 years old I no longer can keep it up like I used to. I’m looking for a buyer who enjoys working on vintage RX 1st gens and appreciates driving one of the most enjoyable vintage sports cars ever made. It is very reliable if driven on a regular basis as it doesn’t like sitting around for long periods of time.
