This is by far arguably one of the finest Cobra recreations on the market !! and I do not say that lightly, this is a Contemporary Cobra furnished by Peter Bayer of Contemporary Classic Motor Cars in Mamaroneck, New York. Dating back to 1979 the CCX Cars with over 40 years have earned their own collectability status and are Classics in their own right. For the ones who know you know for others who don’t know the history is quite remarkable.
Peter Bayer set out to create one the finest recreation of the Cobra ever built, early on back way before many companies have followed suit. Having owned a Shelby Cobra himself CSX3045, that was the car the molds and chassis were to be designed from. They are considered the most correct form of a Shelby Cobra Replica in existence right down to its tubular Chassis. Its designed and mimicks the original Carrol Shelby Design, the dimensions of the body are spot on and its construction is unique to itself and not duplicated the same way with todays versions. “The Contemporary Classics might as well be a signature replica” . ( and Shelby did Sign this particular car !!!!)
In 1993 Kit Car magazine did a comparison with a true Shelby Cobra and a team of replicas, Taking aim at the Original Shelby Sports Car . The Contemporary Cobra was the only car that equaled or bettered the results of the Original Shelby in every test category !!

The Contemporary Cobra build used in the Test was virtually identical to ones Shelby Built In the 60’s with the exception of a slightly thicker gauge of aluminum in the body work, and a redesigned upper ball joint in the front suspension Both alterations were done to improve the cars durability … in Shelby’s own words about the Contemporary “ It was the Cobra I would have built had production continued” : Shelby Claimed.
The gathering of the replicas represented a wide range of philosophies, and Shelby agreed to participate in this test in 1993… Lewis Downs 1983 Contemporary Cobra with over 40,000 miles was used in the test, it was later signed by Carroll Shelby himself it reads “Carroll Shelby Best Wishes” and that about says it all.

This 1996 Contemporary Cobra CCX33957 was constructed in 1996, in Southern California its owner Craig Wight was a well known Racer and Auto enthusiast. We have the original purchase order Notes and Letters back and forth with Randy Russell of Palm Springs who was a Premier and Licensed Contemporary Cobra Builder for PSM Motors. Craig had supplied him with the correct 1965 Fe Side Oiler 427 , they used a Richmond 4 Speed known as the 4+1 5 speed, Jaguar Suspension and the most correct components available, including Halibrand styled wheels. Its authentic look is undeniably stunning !!! at a time prior to many of regulations surrounding Shelby brand were in place , CCX cars received a level of correctness that many companies cannot duplicate today thus a estimated 1400 cars were built.
