Vehicle Description
This 1983 Ford Mustang GLX convertible is an exceptionally original
classic. That's quite appealing because it's also a unique offering
for this year. And when you look at details like the color and
transmission, it's starting to look like that this V8 drop-top is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
This is a pivotal year for the Mustang. 1983 marked the return of
the convertible, and at nearly double the price of the base coupe,
these are a rare sight today. And the top-tier GLX package was only
offered this year in a drop-top. Bittersweet Orange was never a
popular color when it was offered for a few years on the early Fox
body Mustangs. Don't feel bad for it because today it means they
are quite collectible. In fact, it's believed less than 50 GLX
convertibles were finished this way. So you're looking at a color
that's more vibrant than red and has the rarity that would make a
Ferrari jealous! That's why it's even more impressive that this one
shows all the right signs of being the factory application. And
while there is no proof that the low odometer represents the car's
full mileage, the glossy finish has the look of an ultra-low
mileage car where more issues come from waxing it for 40 years
rather than the daily grind. So it's not perfect, but it's darn
impressive. And we like the coordinated black style of the
pinstripe, encircling rub strip, full mud flaps, and headlight
buckets. Plus, details like the bright white convertible top and
wire wheel covers add the right GLX-level elegance.
The GLX was about being an upper-class convertible, and this one
shows that role inside. The way the white swats and door panels
continue to have such a bright style is another reason why we could
believe this was a low-mileage cherished car. But we especially
like to see higher traffic areas like the carpeting done in black
so you never have to worry about dusty shoes. It's a terrifically
preserved style, right down to details like the under-dash light
that greets you and the optional "luxury" steering wheel. It's a
loaded car, and it really continues the time capsule feel with all
the right features, including the center console, AM/FM/cassette
stereo, cruise control, and a power convertible top. And one of our
favorite features is the transmission. We have the window sticker
to show a credit back on this car for having a four-speed manual
(most V8 GLXs came with a four-speed auto or a five-speed stick.)
So when we think about the color and transmission, there's
potential for a one-of-one pony car!
Under the hood is the classic Ford 5.0-liter V8. It has the look of
proper care and good maintenance and the way this one fires up and
runs reaffirms its proper respect. In fact, hitting the road will
feel like turning back the clock 40 years. It's a confident and
comfortable cruiser with power steering, power brakes, front discs,
a rear sway bar, and newer touring tires.
The sale comes complete with the original window sticker, service
manuals, and other vintage paperwork. The attached Marti report
shows just exactly how rare this GLX convertible is. But it
certainly feels like you're looking at one of the best prices
you'll even find for a well-kept car with exotic-level production
figures. Call today!!!
