Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is excited to offer this
one of a kind 1929 Ford Track Roadster. Any old hot rodder knows
the Nicks Old Car Specialty shop out of Redlands, CA & its
world-famous owner/builder Harry Nicks, and this stretched, all
steel/aluminum '29 is one of his finest creations! Along with
well-known race suspension designer George Eckardt, Nicks has
assembled another of the crown jewels on his build resume, this
road ready '29. Starting with a fully boxed 1932 chassis, the team
went all out on the suspension design. This front & rear torsion
bar suspension not only cleans up the lines, but dramatically
improves the handling, allowing for the 4-link rear & torsion bars
to hold on tightly to the Ford 9" Currie Posi-trac rear end while
completely doing away with the conventional leaf spring/coil spring
rear end. This is the same technology & building techniques that
made Eckhardt a legend among the Sprint Car and off-road racing
crowds. On a vehicle with so little weight, sometimes more is
better, and in this case the Pro Performance 350CID V8 creates a
rocket ship, not a smoke machine! The power to weight ratio has
been clearly thought out & the exhilaration is unmatched, running
the horses through a Richmond Super T-10 4 speed tranny and singing
sweet songs out of the side mounted exhaust. The interior has been
shown the same love of quality and craftsmanship, with Jerry Noones
from Jerry Noones Custom Upholstery laying down the beautiful
Bamboo colored Mercedes Benz leather & German weave carpets
throughout the cabin & trunk areas. The doors were stretched 2",
the rear cowl was moved back 3" for more interior room and the rear
pan was dropped 3". Custom rolls int the door work to match up the
lines & a chopped, curved glass windscreen show just how much
attention to detail was built into this Roadster. The entire build
process was highly documented in a 5-page spread in the March 2002
edition of Street Rod Builder magazine, and the 3 custom made
"build boards", including the show board listing Harry Nicks as the
owner, will be passed on to the new owner. This is a once in a
lifetime opportunity to own a piece of art created by Harry Nicks &
his crew, and this vehicle should be considered by anyone who
understands exactly what this creation really is!
