Melanson Motors is proud to offer this amazing 1940 Willys Coupe Hot Rod. This car was a multi-year build and is absolutely incredible quality everywhere. It has custom touches everywhere you look. This Willys comes with a binder listing part numbers, information and pictures of the build. The car drives excellent and has 2380 miles since the build.
Driveline
Engine - 1955 Chrysler 331 Hemi with 354 Heads. Dual quad setup with Edelbrock 500 cfm carburetors. Weiand aluminum intake manifold. Ceramic coated BlockHugger headers. Big Block Chevrolet water pump for ultra high flow. Chrome alternator. MSD Distributor and coil. 4-core radiator with dual 11 inch electric fans. Chrysler high performance starter.
Transmission - 700R4 Overdrive from a Corvette. Rebuilt to the highest standards by Crowe Transmission.
Rear End - Ford 9 inch with new axle tubes, new 3.70 gear set, Fel-Pro Gasket.
Body
Composite Body from Cutting Edge. These ultra high quality bodies were manufactured using GM Technology. They are 10x stronger than fiberglass and there is no gel coat so the body will not “star” from a stone chip. The whole body only weighs 360 pounds. It has a C5 Corvette honeycomb balsa floor and inside door panels. The total weight of the car is just over 3000lbs.
The paint is BMW Dark Blue and the door open suicide style. The rear fenders are easily removed with 4 easy to reach bolts which makes changing rear tires easy, a major problem on other Willys. The hood operates on an electric tilt at the push of a button. The trunk also has an electric motor to raise it.
Chassis
The chassis was built by Hot Rods FX and is a double tube space chassis. The work is incredible! It is painted with urethane enamel in Hemi Orange. The battery box has a quick connect for easy charging. It was also designed to easily swing open in the event a battery needs to be replaced. The exhaust is a beautiful custom stainless from front to back.
The front end is a Mustang II with tubular control arms, adjustable coilovers and rack and pinion steering. This Willys has power disc brakes up front and drums in the rear.
The front wheels are ET spokes 15x7 and the rear are Mehelich 17x10.
The tires are Goodyear Eagle II and are 205/60 front, 285/65 rear.
Interior
This Willys has a hand crafted, stunning leather interior. The dash insert is aluminum and has Autometer gauges. It also has a small screen which is a reverse camera display. The turn signals are self canceling and are push buttons located on the dash. The steering column is also beautiful stainless and has a quick release feature on the steering wheel for easy entering and exiting. The center console is custom built and features a stainless B&M Shifter, auxiliary autometer gauges, a leather wrapped ebrake handle, auxiliary switches, and controls for the Vintage Air heat and air conditioning.
