Vehicle Description
Corvette will forever be America's oldest official sports car with
a bold tradition of building a 2-seat, performance-oriented vehicle
for the past 70 years! Through the good years, and arguably bad
ones, there is a Corvette to catch the attention of almost any
enthusiast. It is without any question the C2 Generation is among
the most desired for classic car collectors the world over. These
consist of the years 1963 to 1967. With their beautifully sculpted
body lines and improvements with independent suspensions, 4-wheel
disc brakes, and various engine options, it's easy to see why they
consistently find values increasing year after year!
We are proud to offer this beautifully restored 1966 Chevrolet
Corvette Convertible fitted with a date-code correct L72 427ci V8
engine producing a factory rated 450 horsepower, mated to a 4-speed
manual Muncie transmission and Posi-Traction rear axle! Finished in
code correct 978AA- Laguna Blue over 414BA- Bright Blue Vinyl
interior with a Black convertible top. Options on this special
solid-lifter big block Corvette include cast aluminum knock-off
wheels with gold stripe BF Goodrich Silvertown tires measuring
7.75x15 4-ply nylon, side mount exhaust system, AM/FM radio with
electric antenna, plastic floor mats, and seatbelts.
Coming from the same former owner of 28 years, this beautifully
kept Corvette was professionally restored in frame-up fashion in
1997 by the esteemed Pete Rizzo here in St Louis, MO. As a former
NCRS judge, his firm Pete Rizzo Auto Repair, specialized in
executing exquisite Corvette restorations as their main occupation
for the better part of 4 decades! Mr. Rizzo is partially retired
now but oversaw our purchase for our museum collection offering his
incite from his previous restoration of this car. This included a
complete rebuild of the engine with new pistons/rings, stock
camshaft, solid lifters, rebuilt heads with valve job allowing for
new guides, seats, valves & springs; new gas tank but retaining the
original 3/8" fuel lines to support it as a true 427 big block car;
all new suspension, all new wiring throughout, and superb body work
with a Dupont base coat/clear coat paint finish. The owner at that
time never had any other intentions to show it or have it judged by
the NCRS, so it was restored to be a confident cruiser with
powerhouse performance!
It is now being offered again for the first time since 1995, and we
expect Corvette enthusiasts will admire its credentials very
quickly! This is a late November built Corvette with a 3869942
block casting from September 20th, 1965. These HI PERF blocks are
specific to 1966 production only. The stamp pad on this unit is
blank, and many NCRS experts are aware some early 450 horsepower
Corvettes likely had a few replacement blocks for various warranty
reasons. This one appears to only have had the head surfaces
machined at one point. We won't be calling this number's matching
for that reason but are confident it was always a big block 427ci
convertible from the factory. If you seek a classic, midyear with
some serious power and big block credentials, look no further! This
should easily satisfy the cravings for a weekend 'Cars & Coffee'
cruiser and show car alike! Feel free to call with additional
questions or to schedule a chance to review it in person! Act
quickly!
