410 V-8 Engine
Teletouch Automatic Transmission
New Carburetor
The famed Edsel was built and marketed in model years 1958 through
196 under the direction of Edsel Ford. Operating as a new Division
of Ford and offered in 4 model luxury levels, the Corsair
represented the next-to-highest trim level available within the
Edsel brand and rode on Edsel's 124 in wheelbase. In addition to
higher-grade interior appointments, the Corsair also received
additional stainless steel trim and deluxe wheel covers. Just over
6300 Corsair 4 Door Hardtops were produced in 1958.
The Corsair was powered by a V8 and came equipped with Edsel's
Teletouch automatic transmission as standard. Unlike other Ford
models that used a column-mounted gear selector, Teletouch placed
its drive-selection buttons in the steering wheel hub where drivers
were accustomed to finding the horn button.
The Edsel presented at auction is a beautiful red and gray example.
The distinctive color combination wrapping from the rear quarter
panel inserts around the rear of the car gives a distinctive and
attractive look. Sitting on four great tires enhances the stance
and presence of this 4 door hardtop.
The body presents well and has had a repaint. The interior in need
of attention. New Upholstery has been ordered and paid for and will
be included in the car upon selling (or shipped to buyer upon
receipt of materials). In addition, a new trunk kit is included
with the car and ready for installation. This is an excellent
chance to own, drive and show an iconic piece of Ford Motor Company
history!
