Vehicle Description
1973 Morris Minor Delivery Van
VIN: 321773N
The Morris Minor is a British economy family car that made its
debut at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, in October 1948. With
more than 1.6million Minors manufactured between 1948 and 1972, the
minor is credited with "getting the British back on the road
following WWII." The closed van and open flat-bed ("pick-up")
versions of the Minor were built from 1953 until the end of
production. The commercial versions were initially marketed as the
Morris Quarter Ton Van and were designed for commercial use with
small businesses.
This 1973 Morris 8CWT presented at auction is a right-hand-drive
van that was imported to the United States after it was purchased
in New Zealand in 1997. Since arrival in the US, it has since been
the subject of a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment.
The body was dipped and stripped and repainted in British Green.
The frame was powder-coated, and updates were given to the braking
and suspension system. These upgrades include front disc brakes and
tube shocks for better handling. The 1275cc engine was replaced,
topped with a Weber downdraft carburetor and is mated to the
English Ford 5speed manual transmission. The charging system was
converted to an alternator and the clutch was subjected to a
hydraulic clutch conversion. The clutch is brand new as is the rear
oil seal on the engine. This car has benefitted greatly from the
seller having owned three Morris Minors and raced a bugeye sprite
in the SCCA!
This Morris will come with numerous spare parts both new and used.
Parts range from axles to rear ends, electrical to suspension and
really too much to mention. All those parts will be included, boxed
up and in the back of the Morris at the auction.
The right-hand-drive cabin features bucket seats trimmed in gray
cloth accompanied by a painted metal dashboard. Equipment includes
a two-spoke steering wheel, a heater, dual storage compartments,
and an aftermarket CD player. The driver's seat mounts have been
modified to accommodate taller drivers and the cargo area features
a lateral brace, metal flooring, and painted steel surfaces.
