Vehicle Description
1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible - Same Family Owned Since the Mid
70s - 351ci V8 - Automatic Transmission - 65k Miles - Blue Exterior
- Black Interior - Lots Of Replaced Parts and Maintenance Featured
here is a spectacular 1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible that has been
owned and cherished by the same family since the mid-70's. As you
can see this car has been well cared for and loved like a true
member of the previous ownership's family and is ready to go to its
next forever family to build new memories cruising with them. This
convertible is unrestored but has been cosmetically restored. It
was repainted several years back with the factory Competition Blue
color and while there are a few minor chips and blemishes here and
there, the finish shines nicely with a rich luster. The front and
rear bumper chrome is original and has been well maintained and
polished but is showing some light patina. The Lectric Shave grill
and bisecting mini center grille are a characteristic of these
classic pony cars and the hide-a-way headlights function as
designed. The black convertible power top works as designed and the
vinyl has been replaced showing only little wear or fading and is
free of any rips, tears or seem pulls. The plastic rear window is
clear, free of any fade or yellowing with only the expected light
scratches from being folded when down. The trunk is clean and is in
original condition and features a new vinyl trunk mat and spare
tire cover. The black interior is largely original with the
exception of new carpet, seat upholstery and rear top boot. The
dash features a 120 mph speedometer, and the factory a water gauge
with warning lights monitoring any concerns with oil pressure, or
voltage loss. The factory radio was replaced with an aftermarket
AM/FM 8-track player that plays through speakers cleanly mounted in
the door panels. A factory center console surrounds the floor
mounted shifter. Under the hood the engine compartment is
unrestored but very original and has been kept clean and well
maintained. Many of the factory engine bay decals are still present
and even the smog air pump for the emissions control is still there
and functioning. The engine was recently tuned up with a new
distributor cap, spark plug wires, and spark plugs, and a new brake
master cylinder was installed. Options include power brakes and
steering. The 351 V8 with 2BBL carburetor starts and runs well. The
underbody of this Cougar is unrestored however consistent with the
rest of the vehicle, the suspension is well maintained. The lower
control arms have been rebuilt, the steering linkage features new
tie rods and the front and rear shocks have been replaced. Power is
transferred from the engine through a FMX iron case 3-speed
automatic back to non-locking differential equipped with 2.80
gears. While there is some light surface rust present, the floors
and subframe are solid and free of any rust through. As the saying
goes, as the top goes down the fun factor goes up. And when it
comes to fun this convertible is ready to treat its next forever
family to many fun memories cruising, going for drives or even just
a quick run for ice cream. Please call if interested or e-mail with
specific questions. Thanks for looking!
