Vehicle Description
Let's just cut to the chase of this exciting and drop-dead gorgeous
muscle car: This 1969 Mustang Mach 1 carries a blistering 428 Cobra
Jet V8 engine, a Shaker hood, great options, a gorgeous color
combination, and it's been treated to a fantastic and
factory-faithful restoration. While not exactly cheap (nor should
it be), this car represents an A-list Mustang at a market-ready
price that's still a fraction of its big block Shelby and Boss
siblings.
Restored back to the car's original Code T5 Candy Apple Red, this
car was stripped bare and rebuilt from there with the intention of
restoring it to a show-quality level worthy of the Mach 1 name. The
1969 Sportsroof is arguably the best-looking Mustang of all time,
ideally capturing the classic Mustang look and adding a healthy
dose of aggression, complete with a factory blacked-out hood
treatment and aggressive rear quarter scoops. Fit and finish are
simply great, show-worthy by pretty much anyone's measure (although
there will always be detractors) and ready to collect local
trophies or hit the street to impress everyone with eyes. No cut
corners, no shoddy patches, just an authentic Mustang restored to a
level befitting its stature as one of the heavy hitters of the
period. And even though an imperfection or two can be found upon
closer examination (we're talking about a handful of really minor
stuff here), any objective person would be happy to show this car
off with great pride. Gaps are exact, the chrome sparkles, the Mach
1 decals are right where they're supposed to be, and the Candy
Apple Red paint has a simply impossibly nice shine that really
loves our photo booth. It retains the blackout hood treatment it
was born with at the factory along with a highly desired Shaker
hood and hood pins/lanyards, correct Mach 1 decals down the flanks,
and a few bright pieces of trim, all of which make this car look
predatory yet totally correct. Just imagine prowling the streets of
1969 in this animal!
Inside this Mustang features a Black Clarion vinyl knit bucket seat
interior that's in fantastic shape, and it's all 100% correct and
will garner you loads of points at the next MCA show. If you can
touch it, it was replaced/restored during the build, including the
comfortable upholstery on the seats, the door panels, plush carpets
with correct pile and loop, an unblemished dash pad, and taut
headliner, all of which look exactly right and were installed by
experts. This gorgeous Mach 1 comes with a semi-luxury attitude
with woodgrained appliques throughout that are bright and crisp,
the factory gauges are crystal clear and excellent in shape, and
the woodgrain steering wheel looks right in place and feel amazing
in the hands of the driver. The factory center console might be the
most popular option of all-time, and in addition to being in
virtually untouched condition, it carries an easy to reach T-handle
shifter that manages the C6 automatic transmission below. In
keeping with the factory recipe, the restorers didn't add any
aftermarket options to muddy the car's originality, so other than
an AM radio, heat/defrost unit, vinyl floormats, and tinted glass,
amenities are at a minimum. But this isn't a Lexus, the point is to
GO FAST, not necessarily be pampered to death. The folding Sport
Deck rear seat is a super-cool option that's also very practical if
you have to tow around any luggage (or large trophies), and
seatbelts fore and aft will make the passengers feel a bit more
secure when the big block is really stretching its legs at full
bore. Out back, the spotless trunk offers a correct mat, a Goodyear
bias-ply spare and jack set, and has enough room to account for
most travel arrangements.
Legendary doesn't even begin to describe the 428 Cobra Jet V8 under
the hood, and it feels right at home inside this original big block
car. According to the Marti Report this Mach 1 was born with a 498
V8 4-V Ram Air engine and an automatic transmission, and although
Ford didn't typically stamp VIN's on their block (so there's really
no such thing as numbers matching), we were able to pull a partial
VIN and are fairly convinced that at the very least this is a
date-code correct Cobra Jet. The powerful big block has been
dressed to impress with Ford Blue on the engine block, chrome
"Powered by Ford" valve covers at the flanks, and that awesome and
functional Shaker hood up top. The engine bay is presented just
like it would've been in '69, right down to all the correct decals,
hoses, and clamps, and it's so clean under there it's a wonder this
fastback has been driven since it was finished. It starts and runs
beautifully, the C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission feels great through
every gear, and with a conventional rear end filled with factory
3.50 gears out back, it's very easy to handle on the street.
Underneath, it's beautifully finished with spotless red oxide
floors, fresh components everywhere you look, a great-sounding dual
exhaust system, and a factory suspension that's more than capable
of handling all the power the 428 can throw at it. Factory power
steering and power front disc brakes vastly improve the driving
experience, while the rolling stock is set on a classic set of
factory Mag wheels, wrapped in 215/70/15 BFGoodrich white-letter
radials that finish off the look perfectly.
Documented with a Marti Report, owner's manual, and a reproduction
build sheet, this incredible, nut-and-bolt restored Mustang Mach 1
is a must see. Buy the best and never wonder whether you made the
wrong decision. Call today!
