Check out this visual history of Z-lineage through this 1984 Nissan
300ZX, otherwise known as the "Nissan Fairlady Z."
From 1984 to 1989, the 300ZX Z31 chassis was a huge hit. With power
from a peppy turbocharged 3.0 V-6, the engine pushes the 3,120lb 2
seater almost effortlessly. The automatic transmission smoothly
shifts through all 4 and then drops rpm's to a comfortable range
with the overdrive. The 1984 turbo models featured a Garrett T3
turbocharger with a 7.8:1 compression ratio. Equipped with
electronic fuel injection, rear wheel drive, and a R200 rear
differential, 300ZX's are living legends.
Finished in Regatta Red, early models are referred to as "Zenki"
due to the pop-up headlights and the taillights. With the Zenki's
entrance into the American market, looks were rather debated due to
the resemblance with the prior generation. As many as 70,000 260Z's
were being sold in the States and why fix what wasn't broken?
The beige interior invites you in and as you slide into the driver
seat you'll find the bottom cushion feels like a pillow while the
top half of the bucket seats are well-bolstered, wrapping around
your ribs and shoulders with just the right amount of restraint.
The headrest can be shifted up-and-down and fore-and-aft. The seat
bottom moves the normal way, but you can also shift its rake angle
to your heart's content. The under-thigh bolster can be inflated
by a small pump handle discreetly built into the front surface of
the seat. All of this adjustment is supplemented with cold blowing
A/C, and gauges to keep a watchful eye on.
Power steering and 4 wheel power disc brakes help keep the driver
in control while on the twisties. Other options include
AM/FM/Cassette, courtesy lights, cruise, and power windows.
