The Chevelle/SS is one of the most popular muscle cars ever built.
The 'SS' was an option package to the Chevelle in '70, not a unique
model in and of itself. Without an original build sheet, window
sticker or similar documentation it is normally virtually
impossible to determine exactly how any '70 Chevelle left the
factory - what options, what engine, etc. That said, this Chevelle
was produced in Oshawa, Canada and some of their documentation is
much better. From what we can gather, this is a true Chevelle/SS
that was equipped with a 396/402ci big-block and a 4-speed manual
transmission. This is logical as the early '70 Chevelle/SS cars
were equipped with the 396ci engine not the 454ci. (This car was
manufactured in Dec. '69.) It has all the features of a factory SS
and the 5,500 redline factory tachometer is correct for the 396ci
engine.
The current owner has possessed this Chevelle/SS for over 20 years
and has supplied a comprehensive package of receipts for work done
on the car. The beautiful Chevelle benefited from an older
'frame-on' full restoration, but new body mounts have been
installed and the frame was painted. The stunning body was
re-sprayed Orange w/contrasting black SS sport striping and a
cowl-induction hood (likely a lacquer finish). New BFGoodrich
Radial T/A tires are mounted on 15" American Racing
'Centerline-style' alloys (5). The restored interior is equipped
with black vinyl bucket seats, full console, tinted windshield and
SS gauge package. There are additional gauges mounted under the
dash and the factory AM/FM sound system includes an 8-track player
that still works.
Power is now supplied by a 4-bolt main 454ci Chevy that, based on
the casting number, was donated by a late '70s-'80s Chevy truck. It
was rebuilt in 2005, fitted with 10.0:1 pistons, reworked
performance GM cast iron heads and a flat tappet hydraulic CompCam
w/.552/.555 lift. (There is a receipt included for all machine work
done on this engine.) A Holley electric fuel pump to a Holley Demon
1563010 850cfm double-pumper carb mounted on an Edelbrock RPM
aluminum manifold supplies fuel. An MSD ignition provides fire and
the 'Rat' sounds amazing through coated Hooker headers to a
free-flowing exhaust. The manual transmission was converted to a
TH400 automatic w/Shiftworks kit and 2,500-stall convertor. Torque
is transferred to 12-bolt positraction differential w/3.31:1
gearing. The clean chassis is fitted with power steering and power
disc/drum brakes. All brake components are new including dual
master, booster, lines and CPP proportioning valve. The heavy duty
SS suspension was lowered 2" and is equipped with SS heavy-duty
front/rear sway bars. This is a stunning Chevelle/SS that will
vastly improve the value of your garage, and raise your heartbeat
on the street. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
