Vehicle Description
1989 Ford F350 Crew Cab Dually
In the early days of automobile manufacturing, vehicles were sold
as a chassis only, and third parties added bodies on top. In 1913,
the Galion Allsteel Body Company, an early developer of the pickup
and dump truck, built and installed hauling boxes on slightly
modified Ford Model T chassis, and from 1917 on, the Model TT.
Seeking part of this market share, Dodge introduced a 3/4-ton
pickup with cab and body constructed entirely of wood in 1924. The
term pick up comes from the actual process of the build where the
owner would literally have the box installed then go pick it
up...hence pickup truck.
For consignment, a title verified 84,220 mile large and in charge
dually long bed 4 door crew cab F350 pickup truck. Complete with
shiny aluminum wheels, a recent tune up, a repaint at some time in
the past, a new lift pump, a 3-speed automatic transmission and cab
top running lights. You can actually feel like you are rolling in a
big rig.
Exterior
A respray in the original Dark Shadow Blue covers the long steel
paneled protruding rear fenders crew cab truck. The panels are
straight and the paint presents well with a shiny finish, but does
have some chips, dings, and runs in the finish. Breaking up the sea
of blue is a wide stripe of white paint laid onto the sides at the
belt line with light blue pinstriping above and black plastic
chrome trimmed guards below. An ever so slightly dingedchrome front
bumper looms below the chrome trimmed gray painted Ford blue oval
badged grille. Outboard of this grille are aerodynamic combination
headlights and turn signals with clear lenses all around. 4 doors
allow for easy access for you and your passengers and large chrome
towing mirrors are dressing up the front two doors. The bed shows
with a black plastic drop in bedliner and shows use which is
typically what one would do with a truck. We note the addition of a
5th wheel plate for when you want to haul those heavy loads as
well. A louvered tailgate with a V-cut top, to allow room for the
5th wheel trailer, looms above another shiny chrome bumper complete
with a 2" high receiver. Both of these towing options are ready to
go with each being wired for lighting and brakes. 16-inch 8 wheel
nut chrome dishes are upfront, and on the rear are the dual reverse
dish shiny 8 wheel nut dual accommodating wheels. We note some
damage on one of the rear wheel simulators. These are framed above
by a large fender bump out which also serves to keep the bed at
normal dimension whilst covering the outboard wheels. Overall a
nice presentation for a big rig style hauler for the common
man.
Interior
With all 4 doors swung open we see gray broadcloth covered benches
both front and rear, providing room for you and 5 of your friends.
These seats remain in very good condition with only light age use
and soiling. The original dash and door panels show some wear and
staining but are in overall good condition with the doors being
both power window and power lock equipped. To the left of the gauge
cluster, we note the headlight and wiper switches, and to the right
are warning lights for the glow plugs and water in the fuel.
Further to the right is a SONY AM/FM/Cassette capable stereo and
the heater/AC dials. Lightly soiled blue carpeting is down and up
high, covering the expansive roof is a tight and clean gray
broadcloth headliner.
Drivetrain
A big 7.3 liter non-turbochargeddiesel V8 with fuel injection and a
C6 3-speed automatic transmission have been installed by the
factory. These appear to be original, and in original condition
showing some patina, corrosion, and overall dusty. A Ford 10.25"
limited slip 4.10 rear is noted but only in the rear. She's a 2wd
boys! Per our consignors notes we see a new lift pump for the
engine along with a recent oil change, belts and filters. The
transmission has been treated to a new neutral safety switch, a
fluid exchange, and a new filter. Also the air conditioning system
has a new pulley, clutch, and clutch solenoid.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust but nothing remarkable. Mechanically and
structurally sound radius arm and coil spring front suspension
works in partnership with leaf springs in the rear. This truck has
been used but cared for on the maintenance front. Power disc brakes
with new pads provide the stopping power on the front and in the
back, we note power drum brakes. A like new single exhaust system
is on and provides a wonderful exhaust note while it removes spent
gasses.
Drive-Ability
Climbing in you are immediately struck with the height you are
riding at, and it gives you a sense of invincibility. This truck
started right up and has good power and smooth shifting for lots of
hauling. Seats are comfortable, and there is certainly plenty of
room for the passengers. It rides like a truck but then again what
did I expect? The only frown to note during our drive was AC
thatdoesn't blow cold and this is backed up by our consignors note
that the AC system is in need of a charging. Otherwise, all else
was functioning swimmingly.
A life of light and careful use is reflected in the surface fit and
finish of this dually crew cab hauler. Nearly the largest pickup
one could have, bathed in Dark Shadow Blue and white in very good
condition overall. Eastbound and down...
