Vehicle Description
This 1966 Shelby Cobra was built by Butler Racing Inc. Ron Butler,
owner of Butler Racing Inc., was Carrol Shelby's crew chief in the
1960s. Starting in the 1970s, Butler built roughly 100 of his own
Cobra replicas through the 1990s, and this is #53. The build took
several years, as the owner spared no expense with great attention
to detail. It is powered by a 427ci V8 Ford side-oiler built by
Holman and Moody. The engine was balanced and blueprinted with
steel crank, steel rods and competition cam. The engine carries its
own Holman and Moody build plate, and the engine is bolted to a
Doug Nash heavy-duty 5-speed manual transmission with a Hurst
shifter and Lakewood scatter shield. Cooling comes from an aluminum
Griffin radiator and all stainless braided lines. The build
consisted of a steel reinforced fiberglass body painted in Night
Watch Blue with white racing stripes. The suspension has
custom-built stainless upper and lower control arms and adjustable
coilover KONI shocks. Stopping power comes from hydraulic front
Wilwood Superlite 11-inch disc brakes with stainless lines and the
rears are internal disc brakes on an independent Jaguar rear end.
The car rides on pin-driven Halibrand wheels with stainless-steel
knock-offs and new BFGoodrich TA radial tires. The interior is
black leather featuring rolled and pleated seats with adjustable
racing harnesses, Stewart-Warner gauges, a black leather Shelby
steering wheel, fully adjustable brake and clutch pedals, chrome
roll bar, and chrome bumpers and brackets. It comes with a new
removable convertible top that is still in the box. **TITLED AS
