Vehicle Description
This custom re-creation of a 1973 Volkswagen Samba Type II Deluxe
23-Window Minibus was restored in Sao Paulo, Brazil, by Macfel
Garage Old Schools. Almost every part of this microbus has been
rebuilt. The powertrain has been rebuilt and is powered by a
factory-original 65hp 1500cc 4-cylinder engine mated to a rebuilt
4-speed manual transmission. Air enters the engine through a
retro-era custom air filter and an aluminum crank pulley has been
installed, along with an adjustable tensioner and generator pulley.
A new carburetor and new distributor, ignition coil, spark plugs
and cables were installed. The suspension, steering and brake
systems were also rebuilt with new original Volkswagen parts. The
electrical system was completely redone, from wires and cables to
the generator, and converted into a 12-volt system with alternator,
voltage regulator and battery. It sits on 14-inch original painted
steel wheels with original chrome VW hubcaps. The entire frame and
bodywork were restored before receiving a new paint job in two
shades of Lotus White and blue. It also has a new VW logo and front
grille, original side mirrors, headlight grilles and wiper arms,
all original, with a chrome finish to complete the exterior. The
cabin has also been completely redone and is decorated with a new
bespoke interior, door panels and an Ivory White and beige
headliner. The bus has been updated as part of the restoration with
23 windows and a large retractable canvas panoramic sunroof. The
seats are original and were restored with the replacement of foam
and springs, covered in ecological vinyl leather, in Ivory White
and beige, VW standard-stitching side doors with double load and
capacity for nine passengers. The entire frame and bodywork were
restored by the Macfel team of craftsmen before receiving a new
paint job in two shades of Lotus White and blue. It has front
windows with a split windshield, which allows its safari-type
opening in chromed steel. Luggage racks rear and front, the
attached retractable steel and wood ladder add additional storage
and retro style to the vehicle.
