Cooper Classics is proud to offer this 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL, presented in its original color combination of Arabian Grey over Red MB Tex, as per the Mercedes Data Card. This is a documented, lifelong Connecticut car. We sold this beautifully restored 280SL to its most recent owner in 2019, also a Connecticut resident, who chose to sell the car back to us after 4 years of enjoyment. This 280SL was the lucky recipient of a bare metal repaint and restoration, in its original Arabian Grey with red interior. The owner of this 280SL at that time decided have the car restored, and it sat for a few years at once shop. The owner decided to send the car to a foremost SL restoration facility to assemble the car. During the restoration, a nut and bolt cosmetic and mechanical restoration was performed, where the car received all new factory parts, a new soft top, an interior refurbishment using proper Mercedes materials, and most importantly a Mercedes Factory Rebuilt Engine. This Mercedes factory rebuilt engine bears the factory replacement tag, and has covered approximately 12,000 miles since installation. If one were to replicate this restoration in 2023, it would likely cost well over $200,000 to achieve the standard that this car is restored to. Fender notches are present on the front fenders. Stampings on the hood, and top cover panel indicate these are the original panels to the car. A CD and photos of the restoration come included with the car which show the entire process beginning to end. Given the light usage since the restoration, this 280SL still presents in pristine condition. Restored with the intention to be driven and enjoyed, this 280SL is currently equipped with a gorgeous Nardi Wood Sport Steering Wheel. The original steering wheel, and an upgraded set of Mercedes Sport Wheels come with the car. This 280SL is ready to be enjoyed and driven and will need nothing from its next loving owner, with all functions of the car operating as designed, including the original Becker Radio which works perfectly. The engine is in excellent tune, the transmission shifts properly, and the brakes work excellently.
