Vehicle Description
Interesting, rare, and absolutely cool, this 1965 Volkswagen Type 2
Transporter Double Cab is the kind of machine that will generate a
ton of interest wherever it goes.
These VW Type 2 trucks have the same cool appeal as the vans, but
are a far rarer sight in the USA. After all, the Chicken Tax cut
their production short for this side of the Atlantic. So we get
particularly excited when you can find one as complete as this. The
paint is a later upgrade where the two-tone utilizes colors that
look period-correct but have the right gloss and shine for a
classic cruiser. The white of this two-tone is an especially
thoughtful application that not only draws attention to the dipping
"V" in the front, but also it coordinates with the bumpers and
wheels. Bright wheel covers, headlight eyelids, and a color-matched
VW emblem up front complete a well-done total package. But as good
as this looks, we also love these for their versatility. Volkswagen
was quite clever at how to stack cargo, and that's why you can take
down any side of the bed for easy loading. Or you can even fold
down all sides and turn your pickup into a flatbed transporter. So
something this distinctive, and also still so useful, is great for
everything from promoting a business to a support vehicle for your
other classics.
The two-tone color theme continues inside. It has a thoughtful
style with red tartan cloth inserts on the seats. Plus, we have a
receipt from 2021 showing thousands $$$$ spent on a new headliner,
sun visors, and door panels. But while this feels fresh, it also
never loses the classic impression. The large factory dual-spoke
steering wheel, single VDO gauge, and tall gearshift should feel a
bit familiar to Beetle fans. Even the classic details like the
AM/FM radio and horn are still working! And since this is a
double-cab pickup, it's one of the rare classic trucks that gives
you the added utility to use for everything from secure storage to
taking extra family and friends along for the ride.
The rear engine bay is a marvel of simplicity, and so it reminds
you that the Type 2 has the same robust reputation as the Type 1
Beetle. This is a 1600cc unit, which is larger than stock or
anything we got in the first series of the T2. It certainly won't
convert this to a performance pickup, but it is a nice upgrade that
hints at the full cruiser style. We even have a receipt showing an
investment in some good driving fundamentals like the brakes and
fuel tank. And we all know the fun of the Volkswagen flat-four is
having a hardy base where you make your own music between the
air-cooled hum and shifts of the four-speed manual
transmission.
You know these don't come up for sale too often in the USA, and
this one is already quite well sorted. So if you were looking for
the ultimate attention-grabber at any VW event or just parked
outside your business, you need to hurry to get this pickup. Call
