Vehicle Description
This 1974 Pontiac Trans Am is a fantastic Firebird with a plethora
of options, extensive Southern History, and, of course, the
"Screaming Chicken" hood decal! To some extent, 1974 was a down
year for the American automakers with the onset of the Oil Crisis
and related gasoline shortages along with new safety and
anti-pollution regulations that had began to take effect. Put
another way, expensive gas and new rules seem to take alot of the
fun out of the cars in the early 70s. However, one car seemed to
buck that trend, the Pontiac Firebird. In fact, the sporty Firebird
was the only car in Pontiac's 1974 lineup that saw a sales gain
from the previous year. Among the 1974 Firebirds, the Trans Am was
the top-of-the-line model and they benefitted from a significant
facelift from the previous year's design. With regards to the front
end, a "shovel nose" otherwise called the "soft nose" was
incorporated and gave the car a more aerodynamic look. At the rear,
new wider and larger taillights were added and featured with an
updated horizontal slotted look. Additionally, a new soft
wraparound rear bumper was added. Of course, all Trans Ams came
equipped with numerous sporty options such as a rear spoiler,
formula steering wheel, rally gauges, and even front disc brakes.
In total, Pontiac only produced 10,255 Trans Ams in 1974 of which
less than 2,000 came with a 4 speed manual transmission. This
particular 1974 Trans Am comes to us from a southern based
collector who has said to have purchased the car from its original
southern owner. Under the "Screaming Chicken" decal'ed hood is a
Numbers Matching 400 Cubic Inch V8 paired with a single 4 barrel
carburetor that was said to have pushed out 225 horsepower when it
was new. The 400 V8 is backed by a Numbers Matching 4 speed manual
transmission that makes this classic Pontiac an absolute blast to
drive. Exhaust exits the Pontiac 400 powerplant via a dual exhaust
setup that gives this Trans Am a nice throaty sound. Power is sent
to the rear wheels via a Limited-Slip differential. In addition to
the Posi rear end, this Trans Am comes loaded with many fantastic
options! Power steering makes maneuvering this 70s muscle car in
and out of tight spaces a total breeze. With power front disc
brakes, bringing this classic Pontiac to a full stop is also made
much easier. This '74 Trans Am also comes equipped with factory air
conditioning so that you can stay cool while cruising even on the
hottest summer days. Riding on a set of Raised Letter Radial Tires
on Rallye II wheels, this 1974 Pontiac has a great look and even
better ride. The exterior on this 1974 Trans Am has been correctly
refinished in beautiful Buccaneer Red, completing the exterior
appearance of the car. The interior on this '74 Pontiac Trans Am is
absolutely gorgeous! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat are
upholstered in black vinyl, just how this car came back in 1974.
The black padded dash, black vinyl door panels, center console,
black carpeting, and steering wheel are all in wonderful condition
as well and appear to be in their stock configuration. The dash is
accented with swirl grain trim and is equipped with a set of Rally
gauges including a 160 MPH speedometer, 8,000 RPM tachometer,
temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, and clock, along
with an AM/FM/8-Track entertainment system. Whether you're buying
your first classic muscle car or you're adding to your existing
Pontiac collection, this 1974 Pontiac Trans Am would make an
excellent choice. Give us a call today at 763-428-7337!
